Someone posted this over at the Jedi Council, and I just HAD to share it with you guys. I think this is a great simple tool to start a campaign:

Well, I hope somebody got to put this crawl to good use, cause it's just been shut down by Lucasfilms. Sithspit, I was just about to use this on a game of mine. How could this possibly be hurting Lucasfilms? I mean, there are TONS of sites around that feature the Star Wars logo and theme music... _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Lucas resented the fact that people had posted crawls that were better than the one in E3. |

Either that or WotC wants to charge you money to use it and got Lucasfilms to rattle the IP sabre at them. |

You can actually get pretty close to a Star Wars crawl with Windows Movie Maker, which I think is standard on any Windows PC. It's not 100%, but it's still pretty good. You'll need the Aurabesh (sp?) font, to do the Star Wars title.
1) publish a movie file of a blue font title over black 'A long time ago etc'
2) publish a movie file of a zoom title STAR WARS in the proper font, over a still image of a starfield (just google images for a starfield)
3) start up a 3rd project, importing both the above files and put them in order. Then, on top of your 2nd movie clip, enter a title that uses the Perspective Scroll, and type up your introductory paragraphs. You'll want to grab audio from a CD w/ the theme song, and you'll probably need to add an effect to this title, to slow it down.
4) publish this 3rd project file and you'll have something worthy of uploading to Youtube
I did this last week in fact. anyone wanna see it?
Another option I've seen on the web is downloading some program for an Apple machine ... if you google 'Star Wars' & 'title crawl', you'll find it. That program's also free. |

nice... I like it... do you have the files saved and are they available for others to exploit, pillage and plunder? _________________ "Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things, right now: Jack and s**t... and Jack left town." - ASH

If you're running Windows and you've got a CD of one of the Star Wars soundtracks, anybody can do this. Just follow the 4 steps I outlined earlier.
If there's a good place to stash files, I could post the files I created for this.
Video file 1 = the blue "long time ago ..." text
Video file 2 = the 'STAR WARS' title over the starfield
Image file 1 = the starfield image, for identical background for the crawl
Then, you'd create a new video project, import these 3 files and then write up whatever title text you need. I used slow speed on the crawl and played around with font size to get something that would last about as long as the music. It's really pretty easy. |
