As background for one of my players characters I need a SW nomadic 'warlike' people/race. The inspiration will be the Apaches, or rather the popular culture view of the Apaches. They must be spacefaring though, so no Gamorreans.

Any good ideas?

Sand People/Tusken Raiders seem like a pretty good Apache fit. I don't know if you need the whole race to be spacefaring, but I know there have been examples of at least individual Sand People who've left Tatooine.

Yeah, that might work...Tatooine. I wanted the whole race to be space faring, but perhaps I can drop that. Now I need the character to have been sold to and later adopted by the Sand people...seems like cruel fate. Is that feasible?

Later he escapes and ends up fighting for the CIS..(in the Clone Wars). Anyone knows of any mercenary units fighting for the CIS? Or did CIS have direct 'humanoid' troopers of note?

To meet the abilities of the superior clone troopers he was drafted into an experiment trying to create (cheap) cybernetic super soldiers. Even if the experiment was successful, events lead to the CIS losing the war anyway. He eventually turned into bounty hunting and has drifted the galaxy since.

Kaleesh get the nomad bonuses, and they're warlike. I'm not sure how space faring they are, but apparently it was Gen. Grievous' starting species. I think they look pretty cool too, reptilian with masks. I believe the converted stats are in one of Gry's books.

Hmm, might work too. Would also explain why he ends up with the CSI. However there are no stats in Grys book, just a pic.

Coynites always struck me as a lot more upright, noble, honorable, straightforward, types...not so much the sneaking around guerilla-warfare that most springs to head (my head, at least) when Apache are mentioned.

Agreed, I find them to be the "klingons" of starwars.

Since the character is very much 'wild west' inspired (a la Sergio Leone) I think Taatoine with the Tusken Raiders as stand ins for Apaches is the best choice. Also, I can use the fact that a certain someone slaughtered a whole tribe of Tuskens (which has adopted the character) in the story. Given the obvious wounds by lightsabers that would explain the character joining up with the CIS to 'fight the jedis'.
