Would profession or artist skill be used to say create a character who was more 'artistic/showman' with say a melee weapon (ie a professional martial artist who goes to competitions..? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I'd still say melee weapons although perhaps a speciality in performance melee is what is called for. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

Yes, very likely the same artist is not a well rounded UFC fighter, so a specialization in Brawling would be called for. |

I would create a specilization of Melee combat (or brawling for a martial arts display) and call it "showmanship" or something along those lines.
if you created a specilization under con/persuasion it would be a less technical display, but he would be a bettor "actor" at doing it (engage the crowd more, using his personality to win them over instead of his skills) _________________ The Vong have Arrived

I would just use Melee Combat/Parry and/or specific weapon specializations... I wouldn't create anything special about it. If they're skilled enough that they're a showman, they'd be fully capable of flashy movements with they're normal skills... the showmanship comes more from personality than a skill.
If you were to use a performance skill, what mechanical use would it actually have in the game? What would Performance 5D+2 mean? What would the difficulties be? What are the results? _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

Jackie Chan comes to mind. To watch his movies you would think he is a great fighter, especially because he does his own stunts and has broken most every bone he has . But he has stated many times that in a real fight he would get his but kicked.
I think that this shows the difference between showman ship and real combat skill.
Though I could be off . |
