I've looked around and there's only a video game reference to where they come from (which I'm not sure I like flavor-wise).

Since quite literally they're only on a couple of Sith Dark Jedi ships, I was debating making a Sith Ritual that's required to make them. Similar to what the Sith do to make their Lightsaber Crystals.

This is what I've come up with:

Sith Sorcery Ritual: Stygium Crystals
This is a 48 hour ritual where the Dark Jedi in question channels the Dark Side of the Force into the crystal generator. With a 48 hour ritual there is enough crystals to cover a (roughly) star-fighter scale sized ship. 60 Hours produces enough for a Freighter-style ship. And a Capital-sized ship is just impossible as all the Dark Jedi who have attempted to make that many have died.

The Dark-sider must in fact be awake for the entire ritual, cannot eat, sleep, or stop the ritual. If they do they must start from scratch all over again, and what crystals were formed are ruined as the ritual was not completed.

Obviously, somewhere in the universe there may be Stygium crystals, but in an effort to keep PC's from finding them I'd rather just keep it hard like this to make them. This way the few ships that have them are it, and if the PC's want to get them for their ships they need to find these ships that have it and take them out with Ionization weapons (so as to not destroy the crystals).

What do you guys think? Anyone have a player begging them to get the Stygium crystals for their ship?

I've never had it happen, but this looks like an interesting mechanic. It goes against cannon, but what good is cannon these days anyway? Wink

There is one comic book reference to a natural occurrence of stygium crystals growing on a water world, there is one particular island on this world that has them growing. It's in the short series "Crossbones - Starfighter" which is included in the Omnibus: "Menace Revealed", anyway, the planet that they grew naturally one was called Maramere, it was a water world where standard passage was still done via boats. A pirate was using the island with stygium crystals to hide out on, and launch raids.

Well I've never seen much "Canon" about Stygium Crystals.

So far, Canon-wise I've only heard of 2 of them now:

1) Video-game reference (1 instance)
2) Comic-book Reference (1 instance)

If there's a more stable canon that talks about them I'm all kinds of open (I like to stay as canon as possible - sometimes).

However I just can't find any "Canon" on that.
