How do you guys think Ion Grenades vs. Equipment should be handled? They shut down droids and I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same thing against blaster, lightsabers, scanners, powersuits, etc. The standard rules say weapons have a resist of 2D on average so I would think that would apply still. _________________ You should not fear your enemies, they should fear you! |

Ships are by the rules in the core book. Otherwise i see it as needing an actual DEMP grenade... not just an ion weapon. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

I'm referring to the EMP grenades from the "Clone Wars" which are also called "droid poppers" _________________ You should not fear your enemies, they should fear you! |

Seems like it might have the same stats as an Ion Grenade.
I tend to think that droids are sufficiently complicated compared to a blaster that they are more vulnerable to ionization than a blaster (or other hand weapon). If the weapons only opposes with a 2D that would seem to make this technology one that would be very effective and thus frequently used. Since I don't find the notion of frequently ionizing the weapons of either the players or their opponents interesting I would probably not allow the EMP grenade to generally effect simple hand weapons.
Note this is an argument from game effect. Whether the physics makes more sense one way or the other is irrelevant to me. That being said, if I were inclined to allow EMP to effect weapons, I would tend to think it more likely to effect systems that are in use at the time of the hit. So it is more likely to effect moving vehicles, droids that are not shut down, repeating weapons that are firing, etc. I might suppose some Jedi have hardened their light sabers against EMP effect - wouldn't really want the magnetic containment to catastropically go down on that active plasma. |

Tell your players you're gonna try it this way for a few sessions and see how it works.
I'd like to hear about the results.
I can just imagine the look on my players' face when they dodge away from a grenade and suddenly their blasters don't work.
You know, Imight give this a try. |

There are rules for "ion proofing" cybernetics and I would think if you wanted to spend the credits to add that to your weapon that it wouldn't be a problem so its not like it will be a constant menace, just a nice surprise _________________ You should not fear your enemies, they should fear you! |

Seems those 'emp grenades are in fact ion grenades..

I had several tables (con games) where i did just that.. Had 2 stormies in each squad with a demp grenade each for those times enemies had high grade power armor/weapons. They would use them to shut the armor/weapons down..... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Sense this is all that these grenades would do, I don't think anything would happen if the grenade is dodged. Similarly if a droid dodges an ion grenade, nothing happens _________________ You should not fear your enemies, they should fear you! |

There was actually quite a large discussion about ion grenades in the What are your favourite Jedi takedown techniques? thread. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

Actually it is a way for my Gamorrean to get into melee, I've never had a problem taking down Jedi _________________ You should not fear your enemies, they should fear you! |
