If a character specialises at character creation does each dice placed into the specialisation give them two dice?

IE if I put 1d in dodge and then 1d in the dodge specialisation of energy bolts does that mean I have 3d (plus dex) to dodge energy bolts?

If this is so how does that work with species that get bonuses to certain skill like the Ubese who get 2d for every 1d they place in technical skills at character creation? Does that give them 4d in technical skill specialisations at character creation for every 1d they put a technical skill specialisation?

That can't be how it works... can it?

no, during character creation when you spend 1D, you get 3 specializations. when you take a specialization of a skill, let's say Dodge: Energy Weapons, your specialization is 1D above your base skill. In addition, you can raise the specialization at half character point cost.

Ah so 1d = 3 1d specialisations?

Does that mean an Ubese (to carry on an example) would get 6 1d specialisation if the skills were technical skill?

And while we're talking about it somewhere in the forums someon has said that you can specialise in specialisations, the example given was intimidation:interrorgation:torture. How does a specialisation within a specialisation work?

No, he would get the specialization at 1D higher than his base technical skill, which would be 2x the number of D placed in it.

the specialization of a specialization would be 1D higher than the specialization when in the specific situation. although it doesn't make much sense to do so, i only did it for one GMC once, because he was a specialist in torture methods.

Once again the MOG shall step in and aid his fellow gamer.

Specializations work like this.
Say you are a human... pilot. You have seven d to make your character.
You take one out, leaving six. Now you use the six d and put it into blaster, dodge, space transports, and starfighter piloting. Now say you have a Mechanical of 4d. You put one d into spacetransports and two d into starfighter piloting. Now, you want to specialize in x wing. So you starfighter piloting is already six d, and your x wing piloting will be seven d.
Specializations at character creation are done after normal d are seperated. Specialezations are one d higher than the normal skills. I've only seen specializations of specializations once, and that was the torture example above. (It was in a book I saw, or have somewhere)
That, I'm not sure about. Torture could just be another specialty of intimidation or interrorgation, it's up to your MOG.

Do the rest of you think that a double specialization would cost even less cp to raise than a single? I myself have never had any player ask me about it while i'm GM. And the possibility of raising a skill for less cp if you double specialize never crossed my mind as a player.

A character decides during character creation that he's good with blasters, but wants to be better with heavy blaster pistols, and even further still, to show how much more skilled he is with his personal one, he specializes in that on top of the blaster: heavy blaster pistol.

OK I think I get it but where do the 3 specialisations come in to it?

Is it each d spent in specialisations give you three seperate 1d specialisations... and I assume these can't be stacked

you can only spend 1D for up to 3 specializations. if you decide to spend less, like lets say you only want 1 specialization, then you've still got +2 that you can put into a different skill

Ah so 1d in specialisation = three +1s

So it's just like 1d in a skill apart from the reduced cost to increase it then?

If you're saying that three +1s equal 1d then I finally understand

I think I got the specialization of a specialization stuff handled out. First, you can specialize in multiple things. Blaster rifle and heavy blaster pistol for example. I think torture, which may be a form of interrorgation, is a specialization of intimidation. Like you can specialize in heavy blaster pistol and Dl-44s, but that would be kind of a waste.

if you are going to specialize, just remember to keep it very general as far as descriptions go. Like Blaster: Heavy Blaster Pistol not Blaster: DL-44.

Would a Duros specializing in a A-Wing, lets say, get 2D for that for only 1 pip? That sounds too good.

I have seen 2 gms do the 'double specialty' thing. Both were for ships...

EG horwax has a beat up YT-2350. He has space transports at 5d+1, Spec YT-2350 at 7d and DBL spec in the rusty package (the name of HIS ship) at 8d. Basically you had to spend in game, 3 full months dedicated to getting to know the ship you wished to dbl spec in, and when that time was up, you rolled 1d bonus above the base specialty when using that ship. If you ever used a different ship for more than 2 weeks, or spent more than 2 months away from your ship, you lost the benefit. The dbl spec goes up when you INCREASE the base skill only.
