Hi everyone!

I am returning to D6 and have a few questions if not too inconvenient.

1. What does the manuverability die mean on a starship's stats? I notice that a ship like the YT-1300 has 0D, the same as a starfighter. Is this just for the purposes of turning and such or does it determine speed also?

2. Is a ship like the YT-1300 common enough for any new group to pickup (if we were talking about the rebellion era) or is everyone flying around in one. I am looking for something unique, but not necessarily a "trademark" ship like the Falcon or the Outrider.

Thanks!
KV

Basically it is for turning, starship maneuvers, or dodging incoming fire. You add your Maneuverability dice to your Space Transports dice, and roll them together. Just like someone shooting at you would roll the Fire Control with their Starship Gunnery.

That's more of a toughie. The YT-1300 was not a terribly uncommon ship. IIRC it wasn't in production at the time, but it was reliable enough that people still use them. Is it unique? It may depend on how late you go. Early on in the rebellion I would say, "probably not." However, we know that in the Thrawn Trilogy, Wedge remarked to Han that Thrawn must have wanted him bad if he went far enough to track down a YT-1300.

How rare this ship might have been at the time is up for debate. Though they seemed to have enough variants around in the WEG supplements for me to think that you could get your hands on one without it being a huge deal, but that not every other ship is going to be one.

If you want something fairly commonplace, but not a YT-1300 or YT-2400, you could always go for a Ghtroc. They're almost as common in the galaxy, but not particularly associated with a big name character. They look pretty decent, too, like space turtles, which is why the one in our campaign was called the Great A'Tuin.

You can also download Gry's Starship Stats book, it has pretty much every ship that's ever appeared in Star Wars, you're sure to find something cool in there.

When I first started playing SWrpg I admit the ship my crew used was a YT1300. This might have due to a lack of creativity from our teenage gamer newbieness. It also probably had something to do with the how we used Miniatures in our gaming and the fact that our GM just built a Miniature scaled modle of the Falcon, and he wanted to show it off... ( Props to him, he airbrushed it and really spent alot of time on it, it looked cool.)
But...

Personally, as a GM, I try and avoid my players using the YT1300's or other common ships from the movies. It's a tradition when I run a SWrpg that the first night I sit down with the players, we all discuss the the setting of the campaign, create the PCs and draw up a basic design for the ship they will have (if the campaign provides them with a ship).

I let the players discus elements from the ships from other games and movies that they like and we all sit about with paper and pencils and work out the basics of the ship. In the past we have had ships that were stylized from Robotech, StarTrek and once crudely after the NASA space shuttle. Then during the time between that night and the next game session, I will render the ship as a 2D floorplan in CorelDraw and print it out for the players. Time permiting I will sometimes do a 3D version and if the campaign runs long enough ( a year or longer ) I will commonly make a Balsa wood version for use with minis.

Stats wise I try not to give the players a huge advantage. I stick with the general stats from stocklight ships provided by published books.

So I say let the players pick a unique look for thier frieghter... You might be pleasantly surprized. Very Happy

You can also check out this page as reference for a bunch of official generic ships that's popped up in SW literature at one point or another. I myself have used the first ship on that list, the Arakyd Helix, in a campaign more than ten years ago. My most recent campaign (more than a year ago) my players used the Corellian YZ-900 to move a round.
