Does anyone know what the rebels pay (if anything) to their soldiers, pilots etc. And how does the rebel alliance get money for funding such a large operation. You would think the Empire would just freeze the bank accounts of those that are thought to be supporting (kind of like what we did with alleged terrorist backers).

The pay? Not and much, in that order.

And, yes, the Empire does freeze the accounts of those they know support the Rebellion. But there are lots of ways of hiding things.

As for other funding, well, there's always ways of getting funding through alternate means.

The Han Solo Trilogy had some early Rebels stealing a load of high-grade Spice in order to fund actions (Much like Opiates are sold to fund some militaries today. And, of course, Air America in Vietnam.).

Corporate investment would be another, with fronts, shell companies, and hidden transfers being ways to prevent the accountants from finding out ("Sure, we pay twice as much for those refresher supplies, but my Uncle owns the company and...").

And, of course, there is Privateering that has gotten supplies and trade goods that the Rebellion could turn around and trade in exchange for other war material. (The Far Orbit Project campaign is focused around this very thing.).

Not to mention that, like today, probably a good part of the rebel forces were "volunteers"... people either grudges against the Empire and/or their own beliefs conflicted with Imperial ideology, and, as such, they just disappeared off the radar.

Han and Biggs both were Imperial trained, but, each left (for different reasons) and eventually joined the rebellion.
