|
|
I have a quick question. In the core book it talks about fire linked weapons. The example they give is the X-wing with its 6D total. I assume that means that each time it fires it does 6D damage, and all 4 guns shoot at once.
The problem I have is the Z-95 headhunter. It has 2 fire linked triple blasters. They do 3D damage. So is that just 3D damage total? That seems kind of a small amount of damage. Here are the stats for the headhunter:
Type: Multi-purpose starfi ghter
Scale: Starfi ghter
Length: 11.8 meters
Skill: Starfi ghter piloting: Z-95
Crew: 1
Crew Skill: Starfi ghter piloting 3D+2, starship gunnery
3D+2, starship shields 3D+1

Sensors:
Passive: 15/0D

Focus: 1/2D

2 Triple Blasters (fi re linked)
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Starship gunnery
Fire Control: 1D
Space Range: 1-5/10/17
Atmosphere Range: 100-500/1/1.7 km
Damage: 3D

Yeah, that's exactly what it means, both cannons firing together do 3D damage. Understand that the Z-95 is a pretty old and somewhat crappy starfighter, so it's really not powerful at all. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Yeah I was always under the impression that the Z-95's only real offensive threat was it's missiles, and that the triple blasters were more for deterrence and for smaller craft like airspeeders and such. _________________ "Could someone please Jury-Rig my Wookiee?!"

I always thought that the damage was too low, really. But that's the way it was statted out. While it is old and second-rate compared to anything newer, it's still supposed to be somewhat viable in space combat. It just seems that 4D would make more sense, and still be far below the damage of, say, an X-wing or TIE fighter. _________________ Arek | Kage |

In the EU stuff, there was a very long series of developments for the headhunter, usually improving on the older models. You can always improve the stats and call it a later model. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

That to me is why the damage is so low, since they are just triple blasters, not laser cannons. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Wookieepedia has a pretty detailed entry on the Headhunter, along with a list of armaments in the sidebar. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Z-95_Headhunter
The Mark I is the one with the swing wings, bubble canopy, and the triple blasters, along with 2 concussion missile launchers. This is the kind Han uses in Han Solo at Star's End, while defending Doc's base. It also gives a description of a later version, the Z-95-AF4 has two fire-linked KX5 laser cannons, (same as the Y-Wing) as well as one concussion missile launcher. This is the version that looks like an X-Wing in cruise mode.
So I'd just use the later version, myself. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

Thanks for the help. I was playing with my bro to help balance a encounter I was thinking of using (or at the very least have ready in case the need arises) and it just seemed like the headhunter was useless against the YT-2400 (4D hull 1D shield).
I think I will try to use a later version. At the very least I might bump the damage to 4D and call it a modified version. I don't want to kill the party, but I don't want them to feel invincible.
Also the party does not have much added to the flying tech skills, so I wanted something that would not be impossible for someone with only 3D in tech to hit.
-edit:
Oh wow, I didn't know it was pre-clone war. That ship has some darn good longevity. |

The YT-1300 is pre-clone war, as well. You can actually see one in one of the prequels. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

More specifically, it's the Millennium Falcon, according to GL. The Millennium Falcon itself was constructed in 60 BBY. _________________ Arek | Kage |

Actually, I think masque was referring to the YT-1300s seen landed on the Naboo spaceport in Episode II. The Millenium Falcon is only seen in Ep3, and thus, at the end of the clone wars. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them."

IIRC there were two side by side on Naboo. _________________ The Enteague Sector | Cracken's Collection of Crackpots

Actually I didn't even remember seeing any in Ep. II, it's been so long. I'll keep an eye out for them when I watch it again. _________________ Arek | Kage |
