Can a Force Pike parry Lightsabers? One of the people I first started playing Star Wars with allowed them to parry lightsabers. _________________ "I've got a bad feeling about this!"

I wouldn't think so. They're basically just a glorified vibrospear. Wikipedia says something about the vibration helping them resist lightsabers, but I don't see anything mentioned about that on Wookieepedia or starwars.com, so I would think a lightsaber would slice right through it. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

Older ones that were in the Sith War, sure. But most melee weapons of that era could.
"Modern" ones, no, sorry. Do not pass go, do collect a replacement limb. |

I will take a limb that has a pimp hand on it, thank you. _________________ "I've got a bad feeling about this!"

It can parry sabers if it is made out of the proper materiel. i forget the materiel off the top of my head, but it has to be made special for that purpose... _________________ The Vong have Arrived

Cortosis or something like that. But it is exceptionally rare, especially in the later eras (ie, before, through and after the movies) |

Right. I just figure Cortosis is so rare that any force pike a character is likely to come up against is unlikely to be made of it, so I just ignore it, since I mostly play in the Rebellion Era. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

Yeah, it was pretty rare when it was "common" It wasn't easy to come by and was very difficult to craft into anything, so items made from it were far from common. Pretty much unheard of leading into the fall of the Republic, rise of the Empire, fall of the Empire and beyond. |

As I recal from the novels cortosis was not only rare it was very brittle too.
It didn't actually stop lightsabers from being damaging it caused an overload in the lightsaber power module which shut the unit down. If you had enought time cou could cut though cortosis with a lightsaber as you'd get one tenth of a slash before the lightsaber failed or something.
But because it was so brittle if you were facing anything that wasn't a lightsaber then you were in real trouble. _________________ Don't waste money on expensive binoculars.

Yeah, basically the idea was to take whatever you didn't want to be cut through and add some cortosis to it. There'd be some damage to the wall/weapon/armor, but it'd shut down the 'saber before it could really do anything serious usually. _________________ Arek | Kage |

MUCH more common than Cortossis but still very expensive, and Mandalorian Iron (Even MORE expensive than Phrick Alloy and Rare) as well (though niether deactivates a lightsaber after it hits though). _________________ Not the droid you're looking for....... |

Where is the info on that Phrik alloy located?
And while i can see normal force pikes NOT being made of any of this special stuff, i can easily imagine the Imperial Royal Guard's force pikes being made of this due to their being there for the Emperor's defense. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Mandalorian Iron is almost all gone. There were only a few places in the Galaxy that had it, but they've been stripmined out by the Empire.
IIRC, that is. |
