The 2 Jedi players were able to track down a quasi failed Jedi to help them train. Both players had no force skills, and they decided to just start as force sensitive (so they do not lose the attribute dice).

So far after a few weeks of training they have earned the first 1D in Control, and they have learned concentration.

My question is: Can the players continue to train control on their own without the trainer so long as they pay extra (and extra time) as per the rules if they only have 1D?

One of the players stated that you need 3D in a force attribute before you can learn it on your own, but that does not make sense to me. I also could not find it in the rules.

Now, I understand that they would not gain new force powers if they train on their own, but if the trainer needs to leave for some reason I do not want to stunt their growth too much, but if they have to pay extra I can slow how fast they grow so they do not get crazy powerful too fast.

I was thinking that after they complete the next mission they are on, they will go on a bit of the Indiana Jones type quest looking for Jedi lore. They can learn more about who the Jedi are, and maybe get some new force powers (over time, not all at once).

I think what's being reffered to is this:

page 140, 2nd Edition Revised and Expanded.

Quote:
Taking on Pupils. Jedi characters can instruct others in the ways of the Force. A character must have a Force skill of at least 3D to teach it and the Jedi can only teach Force powers that she knows.

When what you need to concentrate on is this:

page 140 & 141, 2nd Edition Revised and Expanded.

Quote:
Use the following rules when improving Force skills:
Force skills (Control, sense and alter). Character Point cost: To improve a Force skill by one pip costs a number of Character Points equal to the current number before the "D." Double the Character Point cost without a teacher. Training Time: Characters with a teacher must train one day for each Character Point spent; two days per Character Point without a teacher. Training time may be reduced by one day for each additional Character Point spent (minimum of one day).
Note: A character may be taught a new power each time a Force skill is improved one pip.
Force Powers: A character may be taught a new power each time a Force skill is improved one pip. The new power is chosen by the teacher and must use the improved Force skill (for instance, a Jedi improving control could not learn a power based solely on alter).

This clearly shows that they DON'T need a teacher - it just costs double the CPs to raise the skill, and double the number of days needed for training.

So everything that you have planned for them sounds good, especially being able to control how fast they grow, allowing them to become more experienced with what powers they do have, before they start to gain new and more powerful Force powers.

Plus, you can perhaps attribute their growth to 'leadings of the Force,' which we ALL know works in mysterious ways. The Force is as the Force does, and it does what it wants. It WILL make itself known, even if it has to draw these neophytes down the trail of learning one kicking and screaming baby step at a time. Wink

Actually, the cookies are part of a wonderful little gift basket they put together for potential new members...comes with a small carton of milk, some decorative soaps, and an autographed picture of Fluffy.

Well, I'm running a kid at the moment.

An older kid, to be sure, as he's 3 days away from turning 16, but he's still a kid. I created him to be a bit of a paradox; he's a hoss (very tall already, and more muscular than many grown men) but he's still a kid. And though his Jedi training has helped him be able to act more grown up most of the time, he's still had a few times where it's been evident that he's not one.

I think it's made for a good roleplaying opportunity.
