now, when reparing something it says a repair cost. the cost is x% (for example lets say you are reparing one move, easy diff with 10%.)

Now what is it 10% of, the cost of the ship new, what you paid for it, the cost used, or the cost of the drive itself

Now if it is the cost of the ship new, often there is no new price listed, so is the new price assumed to be 4x the used price (i have seen that most are around that value)?

I'm using x% of new ship for new parts, and x% of used for used parts. If used parts are used, then quality may be lower (higher mishap modifier or other annoying quirks). For all except weapons I'm using % of ship price. Sometimes I'm ignoring this rules (when they give strange results). For price of new ship when only used is given I'm trying to find similar ship with described new price, but usually if ship has no (new) price I'm assuming that new parts are no longer available.

Repairing ship = Price of ship as if it was bought new.
Repairing specific part of ship (eg shields, weapons etc) = cost of That item..

About shields - it's not what rules say. Especially because there's no price for other shields than for light freighter (I bet fighter shields are more expensive because they must be very compact). But if we know original part price then I agree, repair cost may base on it's price, but then price should be determined using "Weapons and other" chart (R&E p.60 2nd column, 2nd chart in column). Otherwise repair prices may be ridiculously low (for example 3D shield costs 20000, and if it's completely drained, then shield repair chart describes price to repair -3D as 5%, it's only 1000, but weapons chart says 35%, 7000, more sensible).
Next problem is, that Weapons chart has only 3 rows, but many systems have 4 levels of damage, I think it may be resolved easily, fourth line may have 60-70% of price.
And the last problem - in some situations % values don't work well. For example, when repairing YT-1300 (new: 100000) drive (space 4, analogous drive in GG6 costs only 10000) from -1 Move costs 15000 (more than new drive), from -4 costs 25000 (the price of used ship)!

Yea, but thats what i was thinking. If the values for these were not included in the rule book, then It should be based on the new or used price of the ship (the game should be playable with only the one book...)

IMO, if you buy new parts, then your ship will be like new, if you buy used parts, then your ship will be like used Smile
SW 2nd R&E says "craft's original value" whatever it is.

i'll have to agree with Tupteq on this one. if you want to keep it in one book then you could use either new or used prices. used price= used parts, new price= new parts. if the characters use used parts then i would add more quirks to the ship. make it more fun to fly.
