I know that someone else was working on a character creator, but he has gone AWOL, so i decided that i would have some fun and build it. i have a few things i wanted to learn how to do, so this sounds like a good oppertunity to do so. i should have GRY's alien stats parsed over the weekend (basically put in an excell format so its lined up vertically, and easy to make a database out of so you can pick any species in that book.
Then im going to try to set it so you can input your starting values (6d extra attributes, and 8d skill dice for example) and make the character from there. then you can store, update and such the character.
From there ill work on adding CPs and then updating a character. adding equipment and stuff.
So let me know what kind of things you would be looking for in a program like this, and ill see what i can do
[edit]
you can get it here! http://databank.yvong.com/SWChrCreat/
may need to install this if it is giving you an error
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=25437D98-51D0-41C1-BB14-64662F5F62FE&displaylang=en
if that odes not work - try the following :
If you are getting a "Component 'COMDLG32.LCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" error, please download and install the following: http://databank.yvong.com/SWChrCreat/VB_Fix_libraryfiles.exe. _________________ The Vong have Arrived

What you have set up is already excellent. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

So basically, you're making a D6 character generator for Excell? Cool. I've seen similar things for d20.
Correct me if I'm wrong, though, that the R&E states that you get 7D in skills and specializations. BTW, do you have any means of dividing up one of the D and turning it into 3D in specializations? |

well, yes cause im not doing it in excell. I am going to make a program in VB (you will all get an EXE) ill whip up a layout to show you what it would look like when i get the database parsed properly **kicks gry's list** _________________ The Vong have Arrived

Okay, now this sounds like a good deal.
You asked about what you'd like to see included, how about instead I tell you the things I was dissatisfied with in the Roleplaying Assistant when I tried to use it for a D6 character? First, it really wound up being a character database. The program did not understand D6 creation rules as far as the min/max of attributes and distribution of skill dice. It required you to know all the rules yourself. (Which, I do, but when I get new players, they don't.)
I would be quite satisfied if your program really understood the intricacies of some of the more difficult species character creations. For some species it says "You get 2D for every 1D spent on [insert skill here] during character creation." If you could program your generator to understand those rules, that would be awesome! |

Yea, that is a bit further off from now. if all goes well, i should have as just a database of the characters and have it displayed like this
http://vong.unbrokenfellowship.com/SWChrCreat/
sample.exe is going to be the file for now.
Im just playing around with layout and such. and hard coded in humans to show you aprox what it would do
lol, i just rememberd i forgot the skills tab. So im thinking ill have the summery stuff on one tab, and the skills and such on a secondary tab, and then equipment on a 3rd tab, mabye force on yet another tab.
Im gonna keep working in it untill i get all the nuances of the game worked out, but yea it will eventually envelop all the rules of the game.
But i expect all of you to test it rigourisly when its done to find bugs and ways i can improve it _________________ The Vong have Arrived

It could also be useful to have an indication on how much character points a PC or a NPC has.
I already made such a thing in an excel doument, and the formula is not too complicated :
if your attribute is (a)D+(b) (I mean, if your attribute is 3D+2, then a=3 and b=2) and your skill (c)D+(d), the total CP you need to go from the attribute level to the skill level is :
(3-b)*c+((a+c)/2)*(c-a-1)*3+c*d _________________ Star Wars D6 Fanbooks |

This is what i ment by putting it all into excell.
*turns out my code worked perfectly, Gry just had multiple spelling mistakes that kept f*** up my script lol*
PS: 474 species in Gry's book, now going to be in my Calcualtor lol
*laughs evily* _________________ The Vong have Arrived

yep. Anyhting is possible you just need to ask for the feature and i can either program it, or say i dont want to. but prining is a good feature, so that sounds goood. _________________ The Vong have Arrived
