Has anyone used pets in their games?
I once had a Jedi Game in which one of my players had a cool pet. It's name was Flinx and it was kinda like a wyrmy snake thing with a pair of wings for flight. The creature was mildly force sensitive and contributed both comedy and help to my players. _________________ "I don't know about angels, but it's fear that gives men wings." -Max Payne

One guy in our group used to have a pet Sanl'jek (kinda like a monkey). It was a cool pet, it actually helped us escape from an Imperial prison once. _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

Cool.
Is the Sanl'jek an official animal? Did it have lockpicking skills or did it distract the guards?

Yeah, it's an official animal from the Creatures of the Galaxy book. I forget exactly how it helped save us (that adventure was a long time ago). I think it either distracted the guards or stole their keycard, something like that. _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

I had 2 pcs at one time that played brothers, and they had a pet robo-dog from Galladnium's Fantastic Tech... although i think they forgot about him cause he wasn't around all the time... he pretty much stayed at home and guarded the apartment. _________________ "For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. The commander of one of my rebel troops once had two big@$$ cat guys (sort of like Karrde) and they were really strong and made awsome scouts when we attached cameras to them. Named Aragorn and Gandalf. _________________ 'God gave you grace to purge this place

My Klatoonian Rustabout, Crunch, has a pet Bunny.
Actually, it's a BNY-7 Droid that the Far Orbit crew had made out of an old MSE-Droid. It's got fur, hops, and does bunny things, and the boarding team move in the night to steal the food that Crunch tries to feed it.
Crunch ain't that bright... But he is useful, and on the odd occasion that he does come up with an idea or plan... They usually work. Despite the fact that they sometimes involve rocks. |

I had an R2 unit that acted more like a pet than a droid. Then things got really weird when it game me a tatoo while I was sleeping. Then took a couple of detonite blocks just for safe keeping. |

I had a character one time, that had 3 dog like creatures as pets. She purposely bought them to help with hunting. They were mostly kind of a take off of my life, since they were named after my 3 real life dogs, and the game master knew that, and allowed them around. They weren't guard dogs or anything, just something else to have a bit of roleplaying with. _________________ Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. My Esoomian character is (hopefully) going to start training a creature to be a pet soon. What skill would I use to do that? |

I think Beast Riding is the closest official rule that might work. You could assume that if you can train a creature to let you ride it, you could also train it to be a pet. Otherwise, I think you'd have to come up with a custom rule. _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

Really I would have thought that training someone/something would be a knowledges thing... perhaps even an intimidation or willpower specialisation... Although if you're using intimidation to train it probably won't be a happy training period |

I agree, maybe you could create a custom Creature Handling knowledge skill. _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda
