How many of you out there have used any of the various lightsaber dueling systems out there? _________________ "I've got a bad feeling about this!"

Well, I have! I used the one in that black book with the Falcon on the cover...
Worked fine (although I did fudge a lot of dice). _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

It requires some tactics. First of all, rolling initiative every round has much more influence than it would in a blaster fight. You are using Lightsaber skill for both attack and parry. If you use the Lightsaber combat force skill you are already at a -1D multiple action penalty. You have to be really careful about how many actions you declare. You tend to burn through character points to make up for parry totals that are not enough to fend off an attack. Remember that for a parry you can spend a max of five CPs for a single roll. Basically you want to get your opponent to burn as many CPs as possible. Force points are another wild card. They double the amount of skill die you are using for a single round. Remember that where as CPs can be spent anytime, FPs must be spent at the beginning of the round. Another thing, using a FP for attack would gain you a dark side point. This is of course no problem for dark side characters but a Jedi would understandably be reluctant to do this. However sometimes the only way to save yourself would be to burn that FP. There are many strategies one could employ in a duel. For example, if lesser skilled character managed to parry long enough for his enemy to burn through most of his CP and FP he could spend a FP of his own and manage to overcome a much more powerful opponent.
To sum things up; the system does a great job at running cinematic lightsaber battles and it is easy to see why Vader engaged Luke in a fight when attempting to drive him to the dark side. |

Sure, there are plenty for sale on e-bay.
PS: Oh sorry, only now I understood that you didn't get my joke. I was referring to the 2nd Edition Revised & Expanded Rulebook. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |
