|
|
During one of the games i ran at gencon a question came up for Absorb/disapate..\
well several did..
1) If one tries it, can they use it as a 'reaction'?
2) if they fail to make it, do they take full damage, or do they still get a soak?
3) Is that soak against the full damage or is it against what remained from the absorb attempt?
4) can they add in armor to their 'control roll' for the absorb??[/i] _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

1) Not sure what you mean. If you mean it like when someone shoots you and you declare a dodge, then I'd say yes. You just can't say you'll use Absorb/Dissipate AFTER you've already been hit.
2) If you fail your roll, you take full damage, no reduction whatsoever. However as always that damage is determined by rolling the attack damage against your STR attribute plus any energy armor.
3) Full damage, the power either absorbs it all or nothing, no middle ground.
4) No, armor does not count for the Control roll, only for the STR roll if you do take the damage.
At least that's how I'm reading the rules. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

If they fail to get the power up, no damage reduction for the Strength roll, but I thought it was possible to at least reduce the damage this way. I mean if you get some 26 points of damage from a blaster and you're able to remove 20 of them. This could overpower Jedi of course. _________________ RPGGamer (featuring a big portion of DLOS-stats!)

Yeah, I know it's tempting to use the Control roll as a soaking roll, it seems to make sense, but it'll certainly overpower the Jedi. The difference between attack damage and Control roll, will usually not be that great, somethign around 6, like your example. And we all know that a damage of 6 can very easily be completely shrugged off by someone with even STR 2D. Playing it like that means the Jedi will hardly ever suffer any damage.... _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Just happen to have my TOJ book handy. *flips to cool Jedi power section*
Looks like if the Jedi blows the roll, he takes full damage. That roll being Moderate + damage roll for blasters & Force Lightning. With an average roll, a Jedi needs to beat 25-30 to absorb a blaster rifle shot. May I suggest concentrating on dodging? _________________ Aha! |

Indeed, Absorb/Dissipate is better used if you're Force powerful but dodge weak. Or you're up against an enemy so skilled that dodging is hopeless.
Normal characters in a normal firefight would do better to rely on the good ol' Dodge. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

The Jedi didn't feel any tingling of the Force right before the droid blew? If not, then condolences to his next of kin. _________________ Aha! |

This is where you're gonna have a division. One school of thought will say that yes, the Jedi ought to have had at least a nudge from the Force. The other school will say the same, but only if the Jedi already had Danger Sense up and running.
Final call? It's up to the GM. It's their world, after all. |

He did not have danger sense up, so no warning it was going to blow.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Garhkal how consider you a droid explosion ? For you is it only a energy blast or is it like a grenade explosion ? In grenades, it is not the explosive that kill but the projected metal parts...
If you consider droid is a big grenade, the jedi can not be protected versus metal parts by absorb / dissipate energy skill. _________________ Phalanks

I've got to agree with the Right Honorable Jedi Skyler on this one. Individual GM's call. Besides, the players never check the droid for a hidden nuke. _________________ Aha! |

Why, thank you, Most Esteemed Pel! 8) You're right; only the MOST paranoid of characters would ever even think to do so... they might suspect, but to actually check it? |

IIRC from the Mission's write up of the droid, their powercell went critical. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
