Power Attack is a rule in the D20 SW that allows for a less accurate, more powerful attack with a melee weapon. In KotOR, it allows for the same deadlier attack with any weapon. So, is this really possibe with blasters, such as an overcharge in the power cell? And would this have any negative side-effects (Like overheating)?

Thanks in advance

Umm... IF this were a d20 forum...

I'd say you'd run a better than average chance of it blowing up and taking your arm off with it... which, in a d20 system would mean you'd take x hit points and still be able to survive ...

Well, in D6 terms. But yeah, I'm not into D20. I was just asking for opinions as to this being possible.

And I could live without an arm 8)

Heh...

ESPECIALLY in d20 ... "It's a flesh wound..."

I, personally, would say that it's not possible for blasters/lasers in ANY system ...

Power attack is more strength based... think berserkers... (see wookie rage, perhaps)...

Right... So KotOR was wrong in letting you use a charged up attack? KotOR was wrong!? *Head Explodes*

KotOR was wrong. D6 rules!

I don't think it makes sense to make a power attack with a blaster, the closest thing would be a berserker rage with a melee weapon or brawling. But ranged energy weapons make no sense.

If you wanted to do a power attack with a blaster you'd have to modify, improve or jury rig it. I believe Cracken's Rebel Field Guide has an example of blaster modification that increases output but reduces accuracy. It's just not the kind of thing you in one round.

In d20, at least in D&D, I haven't really played the Star Wars game (so inferior to the tried and true d6, imo), you can't power attack with ranged weapons, only melee (which also have to be swung in two hands for the power attack (I think)). So, in short, no. KotOR probably allowed it for easier game programming mechanics, or an oversight.

ohhhh you wanted to charge a blaster.

i know there is a way to set a blaster to fire a full pack at once. ive read it in books.

no in doing so, there is a chance (i think its around 25%) it will explode and hurt a 50% chance itll fire, and make the blaster useless (fused parts and all) and a 25% chance that itll go off perfectly.

itll do alot more damage as you are firing x shots concurrently (so use the working together rule for the amount of shots in the blaster to add damage up for the shot i would think)

edit: by set, i mean rig with probably a blaster repair roll Razz

I have allwoed it for melee/brawl attacks before, basically an all out attack (much like an all out parry) where you add double the weapons bonus damage, but get no defense.
