Hello all and Merry Christmas
I am trying to get a feel for how other people use skip ray blast boats in the game. Do you run them at starfighter scale or do you run them at capital scale giving them the extra 6d to take damage but also the extra 6d for starfighter scale things to hit them. Any feedback would be appreciated |

For now we have never seen a skipray blastboat in our games...
However, I think we should use starfighter scale for the ship, but with capital scale ion cannons
And thus the hull code should be 5D+1 or 6D+1 (2D+1 + 6D is too much IMO)
Scale should not only depend on power output, and this ship is only 25m long... |

First, I use die caps.
Second, the ship is not 100% capital scale. It actually gives diffrent scale listings for diffrent sections of the ship. Its ion cannons are the only capital scale weapons it has.
However, if the ship is heavy enough, than perhaps it does have the armor and shields to put it at capital scale for combat purposes.
I have found that in either case, a lone TIE fighter can almost always kill a lone skipray. So either way, it is not an ubership, so go ahead and make it capital scale. _________________ My backpack has jets!

I run them as fighters and ignore all reference to capital scale. _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.

I have not used Skiprays a whole lot. When I do, I run them as capital, as described in the Imperial Sourcebook. Keep in mind, I use Die Caps, not die pooling for scale, so an X-Wing or Tie-Fighter can still easily dismantle a skipray with its hull code. _________________ "There's a set way to gain new Force Points and it represents a very nice system, where you're rewarded for heroism, not for being a poor conductor to electricity." ~Jachra |

I run a little of both. I really like the die caps ever since the Rules Supplement introduced them. I think it's one of the best books WEG produced.
Anyway, let's swerve back on topic.
Since the Imperial Sourcebook listed the Skipray as "Capital due to power output" I run them with capital-scale shields and ion cannon. Everything else is starfighter scale.
I found this made the design playable but not insanely powerful. _________________ Aha! |

PWNED is a purposeful misspelling of the word "owned." It's slang for a humiliating defeat. Originally it came from chatting on first person shooter servers (probably where the canonical misspelling came from) and has since spread all over the internet with pictures of all kinds of things. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

I would keep them starfighter scale. I personally don't call anything under 150 meters in length capitol scale. |

If I were to use a Skipray at cap-scale, my rationale would be that even though it's only the size of a YT-1300, the reactor needed to power those three ion cannons, shields and keeping the thing moving like an X-Wing puts off so much energy, on targeting sensors it's lit up like a Christmas tree (and thus easier to hit). |

I don't know that I would apply the to-hit bonus to other starfighter-sized craft unless they were firing a torpedo or missile. Then the seeker would have an easier time locking on due to the immense power output. Lasers wouldn't get that FC bonus because a lot of that depends upon the flying skill of the pilot (who must point his craft at the target in most cases).
I believe capital-scale weapons would also get an FC bonus, perhaps by relaxing the die cap a bit since they would definitely stand out, as you say.
I never considered this particular point when dealing with the Skipray. Have others run into similar situations? _________________ Aha! |
