OK, now that ships and weapons are out of the way... What general gear is considered indispensible in your groups???
Despite the successful nature of MedPacks and other lifesaving devises... I gotta go with the "Verti-Go Line Thrower"!
It's a useful climbing/repelling device, uses the "Blaster" skill to aim and fire (Always useful!), works as a back-up weapon if neccessary, has little to no power system keeping it from scanners, works in space (At least my GM hasn't nailed us on it!), mounts on the bottom of Rifles and Carbines...
In fact, the only "Downside" to this item is that on "Fast" mode, it makes alot of noise! Personally, if you have to move fast, stealth is not an option anyhow. But I'm usually the Freighter Pilot, so what do I know?
It's been used for escapes, rescues, and, in two instances, anti-boarding purposes (Verti-Go + Thermal Detonators + Bored Insane Rodian in a VaccSuit = *KABOOM*).
After the "Rocket Pack Incident", it's our group's main way of "Flying" that doesn't involve Spaceships or Speeders.
So, that's mine, how about yours??? |

We usually had a standard load-out consisting of:
medpac - even if you don't know how to use it, at least you'll always have one for the medic to use when you get wounded
comlink - so you can still communicate with the other members of your group when you split up
datapad - so your character can write things down, so even if you (the player) forget something, your character wrote it down so he can look it up
Some other items that were a bit less common, but just as indispensable:
detonite - always good for opening that door you can't unlock
shipjacking kit - very useful for getting into locked ships
And last, but definitely not least:
MicroThrust Portable Computer - my character spent a fortune on the thing, but it was invaluable when hacking into computer systems
Don't leave home without it... _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

I gotta say one of the most useful things we've ever brought (stolen) was a protocal droid head. It could still talk and therefore translate but it lacked the ability to flail about stupidly or wander off.
Of course without a body it required recharging often but we can also stick it around a corner when we aren't sure what/who is around the corner |

We one took a Protocal droid and installed the head in the dash of the ship. Then no matter what language the incoming com people were speaking in we could understand. It also helped to mask the voice of our outgoing coms. |

We do that whenever we're doing anything illegal.
Basically the people who try to hail us get a replys in a language that they've never heard of and in case they have translators we've instructed M20 (the head) to only talk about the mundane things like the local weather |

i like the droid head around the corner... very clever trick, unless there's a gammorean around the corner that spies his next thrashing victim... _________________ "For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Most of my character's have 2 medpacks, microbanaculars, infared goggles, antigrav boots, a melee weapon of any sort, and on ocasion a repulsor flyer (we got a really good one from some enimies we killed they had some awsome other stuff too). Mostly I do not rely on anything but a simple gun and a melee weapon. _________________ 'God gave you grace to purge this place

Here's the info for the MicroThrust Portable Computers. It costs 62,500 Credits for the top-of-the-line model, but it adds +5D to your computer programming skill rolls!
Let's see... a beginning Verpine character with 7D computer programming skill, +2D for their Technical Bonus, with a BioTech Borg Construct adding +2D, using one of these portables that adds +5D to his computer programming skill rolls... He would roll 16D for his computer programming skill checks! Instant uber-slicer! _________________ "Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." --Yoda

Wow! That's a cool computer, bro.
The most usefull item is probably the comlink in my games. Lockpicks are probably the most needed and demanded item in my games as well. _________________ "I don't know about angels, but it's fear that gives men wings." -Max Payne

Of course a pc head wouldn't be in as much danger as a droids....unless a PC is playing a droid.... |
