If it helps, I'm reasonably certain that I haven't had sexual relations with your mother. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

One of the big differences I noticed with Squadrons is that the TIE/ln is tougher than the TIE/in. This, actually makes sense as the Line Fighter would be a dedicated fighter craft, while the Interceptor Fighter would be stripped down as much as possible for pure speed.
Might make me rethink and change some stats if I ever run D6 again. |

There's a reason I want to get a Posse of decent folks, especially ones that I'd wanted to game with for decades at this point. |
Yes. I can't have my son playing online with kids or adults who talk like Samuel L. Jackson. _________________ *

So, finished the story mode. It was... Decent. It's an EA game, unless BioWare is involved (and they're not rushed by EA) that's pretty par for the course.
So now I'm trying the multiplayer part, by myself because no one else I know yet has it. And it's a duristeel-plated mynock!
I can't even play the Imperial side, the lack of shields is very, very telling. And even as the New Republic, I'm barely making it to the point where I can try to attack the enemy Battleship (Imperial Star Destroyer), before I'm forced to run back and protect my Battleship.
I'm not sure if the allied AIs are stupider than the enemy AIs, or I just suck.
Damnit, I had such hopes. I should have known the light at the end of the tunnel was Vader snap-hissing his lightsaber, and I'm a mook in a vest and helmet with a blaster pistol.
I need my Princess-General Space!Mom!!! |

I bought the game.
Regretted it almost immediately.
Here is why:
I'm an old dog. I don't learn new tricks easily. And if I do, I tend to forget the old tricks I used to know.
I have been jet-fightering in the Ace Combat series since day-one, when it was still called 'Air Combat'. (released in 1995 for the Playstation 1) In every interation of that game, the controls are the same, or can be made the same.
I've played almost every sequel to that game, up to 2019's release of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.
That version has a very good multiplayer mode, which I play fairly often and enjoy.
And to quote Finn, "I'm kind of a big deal," in it. Without bragging too much, I am fricken deadly in the virtual sky and kill far more often than I die...due to literal years of practice in (simulated video game) air to air tactical maneuvering.
What does this have to do with Star Wars Squadrons?
Well...the controls are different than Ace Combat.
First thing I did was see if there was a way to re-map the controls. Luckily there is. I was excited...until I realized some of the control commands involve multi button combinations, or buttons combined with control stick or D-pad direction...and you cannot re-map those multi button commands.
So if I want to fly using my years of instinctive practice, I have to choose to give up 4 functions. What 4 things that the fighter can do, do I want to discard?
The other option is to struggle against my long-won instincts and re-learn how to 'fly'. The downside to that is, assuming I can re-teach myself back to a kind of skill level in Star Wars dogfighting, it means that I am condemning my Ace Combat skills to the junk pile. If I wanted to play a match in it, my instincts would be so confused that I would no doubt suck.
*Sigh* what a waste of money. |

I hate flight sims...
I can't even play through battlefront 2 with the short starfighter missions.... I end up crashing even in space with nothing to crash into... it's a gift, maybe? _________________ RR

I'm the 50 Cent of Star Wars: Squadrons. I keep getting shot.
Looks like Rancor Squadron isn't going to be a thing after all. |

There's even Rancor logos you can put on the side of Imperial craft. |

So, the differences in TIE Craft from WEG's stats, along with the alternative systems that can be equipped on craft is making me think of restatting things, making it effectively new models (or upgrades) to traditional TIE Craft compared to their "Start Of The Galactic Civil War" WEG official stats.
Anyone interested? |
