Hmm, I might be wrong here.

Is there someplace better to be wrong at? Smile Wink

As far as I know theres little concistency when it comes to starship damages. One ship from one source does 2D in damage with a laser cannon, and then another does 4D. The same applies to 'fire linked' weapons. You find 'fire linked' weapons doing very little damage.

There actually is. The way it works is that there is a base damage for the weapon, and then it gets +1D if two are lined and +2D if 4 are linked (basically the original combined fire rules). The reason why you see different damages is because some ships have light blasters, some medium, some have lasers (supposedly more damage but a slower rate of fire), and so on.

Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters shows how this is done.

We just translate 1D in skill/damage to +1 and have never found it 'to weak'. We have done it since we started playing SW (beginning of the 90s), so if this aint 1st ed then it must be a house rule from our first GM that has never been questioned.

Orginally, there was a chart that handled combined skills. With 2nd Edition R&E, it got turned into +1 per character, but it also capped this to 1 character per D in command skill.

My argument with that is it means that professional (4D) leaders can only combine 4 characters. Even a great leaders like Obi-won Kenobi and Yoda are limited to combining 9 characters.

Anyway, in my example above I translated the Droidekas Blaster of 8D+2 combining with itself to 8D+10, so if theres a new system perhaps Ill have to reconsider the benefits with 'combining' with itself.

About the only difference I see between your method and the new one used in the R&E is that in R&E there is a cap, and also each +3 from combining converts to to +1D. So using your method, the +10 would be turned to +3D+1.

You can find the combining rules and the other R&E rule changes here at the rancorpit at http://www.rancorpit.com/swrules.shtml (The preceding plug was not a paid advertisement by the rancor pit, although it could become one if anyone want to dump some credits. Smile )

The problem that I see with the R&E rules it the limiting the number of characters equal to the command skill. It pretty much makes the skill ver limited.

What I'd like to see is maybe limited to total bonus to the Command skill, or upping the difficulty for every multiple of troops equal to the Command skill, and upping the limit by type and training of the troops.

i like the combined table from regular 2nd ed. it makes it worthwhile to combine stuff.

commanders do not direct troops all directly. they direct them through subordinates. ie- the platoon sgt tells his 4 squad leaders the squad leaders tell the team leaders then the team leaders tell the troops.

being able to co ordinate 100 people on a complex task without a sub ordinate structure would take a lot of skill.

you could treat a droid, loke the droideka as a character scale vehicle with little tiny crewman operating each gun. maybe it could have the equivalent of an internal command skill to co ordinate the "crew".

if it botches it sits there synchronizing its internal systems. id maybe make it have initiative penalties too
