We're gonna need to work on getting the images to scale... I think you can force the image to fit with in a certain size if need be. Also I'll need to figure out how to handle the images for the uploading part.

Yeah, the images should be restrained to a limited size on the item page, with the option of clicking on it to open the full version.

Once we get the system working we'll have to work a lot on layout and user interface, that's for sure. The amount of data will be so vast, that it will be useless unless the user can browse and search in a user-friendly way.

I think it would be great if we could organize everything on a sort of directory structure. So someone could go Equipment>Protective Gear>Combat Armor and browse through the list of the precise kind of thing he's looking for.

I do see this becoming the final D6 resource. I consider it to be my retirement plan in a way.

That sounds pretty ominous.

It's not. I just think of it as a way to keep everybody always updated on whatever stats I produced. A way to answer most requests with "Head over to The Galaxy Guide, dude."

I have just found "The galaxy guide" a I think it is a super project!

The best part is that the database can be edited by everybody. That is defenetly the best way to make it grow.

Is it only for official stats or also for homebrew stuff? You could add a checkbox so that unofficial stuff could be added.

But anyway, super job! Very Happy

I believe we are going to make it so not everyone can edit it though. There will be a place to submit mistakes on stats posted, and submit homebrew stats, at least i think there will be. If you let everyone edit it, there are too many hands in the pot, and the data gets corrupted (eventually)

Yeah, I think it will be as Vong stated. We'll have homebrewn stats as well, but only of official items. So no "check out this kewl species I created!" My suggestion is that on each item "input screen" there be a drop-down menu, where you can select either WEG (official D6 stats, simply transcribed), WIZARDS (converted from official d20 stats) or HOMEMADE (fan-made stats for unstatted official items). And then on the item's page it would display as a little symbol on a corner somewhere, indicating the stat's origin.

I agree that not everyone should be able to edit the stats. It would get very messy soon.

Plus, it's not like we're building the database from scratch. We already have pretty much all the stats we need right now, it's just a matter of making them easily accessable. Later on we can add and tweak.

The database experienced about a two week down time due to flooding taking out my server. It's based in Indiana and Indiana's been getting pounded by ole' mother nature. It's back up, nothing was lost. I haven't had a whole lot of time to do work on it, but I will have some soon, hopefully. In the mean time we can keep loading stuff in as we have been.

Alright, sorry for the long hiatus in development. I went in and got search fixed it now works for species as well. I'm gonna work on sprucing it up a little bit more and expanding the database. I'm gonna leave it editable for now, since people are using that feature, and I'd like for it to be there.

Thanks for all your work on this. It looks great so far and will be an invaluable source for all of us GM's. I especially like it because I do alot of my roleplaying via Windows Messenger.

Thanks, Alcon, for creating this database. It is a most helpful tool.
I notice that you are open to suggestions or critiques. The problem that I came across visiting this site involved the text on alien descriptions being incomplete:

I have no technical know-how, so sadly, I have no ideas or suggestions.

But keep up the good work!

Hey Steve, thanks for letting me know. I was already aware of that, it came from the way the Alien Species were uploaded into the database. That was the first one where we'd tried to upload stuff into the database using Gry's files. Obviously there were some bugs in the process Wink I've been debating for a while how to go about fixing it. I have a couple of ideas for it, but don't worry it'll get fixed.

Alright, Weapons, Equipment and NPCs are now fully functional. Adding, browsing and editting, including images. I'll probably add a few more features to them. Thinking about adding categories like 'Blaster Pistols' or 'Blaster Rifles'. Maybe also a searchable manufacturer field so you can more easily search for just rifles made by BlasTech and such.

Before that I'm going to try and get Vehicles and Starships working.

On another note, I removed Alien Species from the database temporarily. There were too many issues with the upload for me to edit it (such as the fields in the database being too short for much of the description texts). So I'm probably going to remove those tables and reupload them when I upload everything else.

In the mean time, feel free to go to town adding items and updating the ones that are in there with images and description text (things that probably won't get pulled from the uploads of Gry's material when they take place). Don't worry about adding stuff before the upload of Gry's stuff. I'll write the script so that the upload won't wipe out anything that's already in there, and I can clean up any duplicates easily enough.

Also NPC will have to be done all by hand since there is no material to easily pull them from.

I'm going to be disconnected for the weekend, so work shall continue next week. If anyone finds any bugs please let me know and I'll get on fixing them.
