The lifters or the TIE variant?

The forum is showing me one and the link the other...

Both. I couldn't find a picture of the lifter small enough to post on the forum.

I guess the first step is figuring out what it would be.

Maybe a TIE type gunboat to rival the Skipray?

Is it a recon ship? I'm thinking the turret on the bottom resembles an optics pod or sensor mast...and it has what appear to be antennae sprouting from the top of the hull.

My first thought was a alternative to the TIE scout

According to the page:
Quote:
Imperial Tactical Support Vessel Final
A support ship that can perform multiple roles, including scanning, shield enhancement, tractor beam, and deployment of experimental weapons. Usually accompanied by TIE fighter escort.

But then farther down, the artist calls it a "Science Vessel" work-in-progress.

I think the Skipray and the TIE Scout are both good starting off points. Thanks for the help, guys.

Here's a first pass. Mostly cut-and-paste from CRMcNeill's excellent stats.

I like this

One thing I think we have too little of is scientific type stats.
could a ship like this maybe have other "science" stuff than looking at the stats, quite good sensor ratings.

I was thinking maybe +1 or +2 crew, adding a science officer/crew but as to this ship I love the write up.

Do you have any thoughts maybe about other science "modifications" to ships?

I wasn't sure where to put the science officer/crew, so I put "2" in passengers. Unless you think there should be 2 more...?

I couldn't think of any gear stats to add. I figured the GM would just fluff out what the crew is scanning for: gravity, lifeforms, radiation, ships, minerals, etc. I assume the sensors would also record and transmit the findings of the scans.

Can you think of anything else to add?

It's a pretty great write-up.
I'm getting a vibe from it like a submarine-hunting aircraft. Good for sniffing out cloaked vessels and other hidden adversaries by detecting anomalies.

This makes a lot of sense.
it even "chaper" to sue a TIE craft like this serving the "wet navy" as a deptcharge dropper

What is the say a picture is worth a thousand words, and we maybe should add a picture can give us thousands of ideas

My .02 credits...

I think a science vessel would be better suited to the TIE Lone Scout hull, with the additional scientific equipment taking up some of the cargo space.
The vibe I'm getting from the stats is more along the lines of a carrier-based patrol bomber, ala the S-2 Tracker or S-3 Viking. No doubt it can gather scientific information as well, but so could any scout ship. As such, I'd suggest the following changes to the stat:
-Length: 20 meters is a bit much considering it isn't appreciably larger than the TIEs escorting it (which are only ~7 meters long). I'd go with something in the 10-12 meter range.

-Passengers & Cargo Capacity: There isn't nearly enough room in that hull for all of that. At most, I would suggest having a cargo capacity of 1-2 metric tons that can be used to take 1-2 passengers in a pinch. If you're serious about this being a science vessel, then the science officer should be part of the crew.

-Consumables: 1 year is quite a bit for a tactical support vessel / patrol bomber. It certainly needs greater endurance than a standard TIE, but if this thing is operating as a fleet picket or patrolling for stealthed ships around a system's periphery, it's more likely to just fly out, perform its intended mission and fly back to base. This goes double if it's usually accompanied by a TIE fighter escort.

-Nav Comp / Hyperdrive / Backup: Not really needed for a fleet-based tactical support ship, especially since it will have to leave its escorting TIEs behind.

-Weapons: One additional weapon possibility is using Seismic Charges as the SWU equivalent of a depth charge, with the ship dropping them in close proximity to a ship that is running silent or cloaked, then using its speed to clear the blast radius.

P.S. If you're looking for a scientific research platform, I highly recommend the Loronar SkyBlind from Deckplans Alliance, especially for missions where you wish to avoid attracting attention. The deckplan provided includes an entire level (the Command Level on Deck 6) that is nearly empty, with multiple rooms customizable for scientific equipment.

Addendum to my above: Make the Cargo / Passenger space modular, so it can carry cargo, passengers or both, and include the plug-ins that allow it to install and run a Science / Survey Processor Unit that runs off feeds from the ship’s sensors. Alternatively, it can run as an inter-ship courier with small amounts of cargo and/or passengers, or it can use the tractor beam for search & rescue ops.

A question on depth perception...

Would you say that the TIE Special in the center is closer to the POV than the escorting fighters? If it's directly between them, then its fuselage is definitely larger and capable of packing in a lot more stuff. However, the only canon info available on TIE escort missions (see shuttle escort in RotJ) suggests that escorting fighters take positions aft and to either side of the ship they're escorting.
