The most generous i have ever seen, was 17cp after a full 7 hr gaming session. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

But that kind of generosity is probably more the norm than what I was saying. Normally you don't see huge sums of CPs awarded, even then their not rewarded after every fight or every important roll outside of a fight. The 2nd R&E does say between three and 15 CPs should be rewarded when their handed out. 17 cps is certainly a nice, generous reward but I bet that was after several fights and important rolls outside of fights (you did say it was after 7 hours gaming). But 20 to 40 CPs after every fight and important roll outside a fight along with 2 to 4 FPs? That's just plain ridiculous. But it would let someone level up their character really quickly to the point where they could easily take down someone like Vader after only six fights. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

That is just an insane number of CPs (20-40). That sounds like the GMs fault. _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

But no 17cp awards for a single day session; 5-10 maybe. But more than 2 cps per play hour seems much more generous than I am used to. We average < 1 CP per two hours of play. |

That's the point, jmanski. We got to talking about facing Vader and crmcneil said:

Anyone with a brain says "What's the first planet we can jump to right now?"
What gets truly terrifying is the moron who wants to stay and fight it out. |
So I threw out the ridiculous CP and FP thing saying that unless a GM was extremely generous like that then the PCs shouldn't stand a chance of going up against someone like Vader with only a few adventures under their belt. If the PC's are getting 20 to 40 CPs after every fight, no matter how minor it is, then after just four or six fights they'll have made enough CPs that they should likely have been able to raise certain skills enough to take Vader out.
Most GMs, not gonna say all cause there probably are some that are that ridiculous, aren't gonna be that generous so it's gonna take a few adventures for the PCs to build up enough to the point whare they could not only survive a run in with someone like Vader but win the run in without it being simple luck. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

That's about what we've classically played too. Slow payouts. _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

I am in full agreement, heck even 10cp after just one fight is overboard imo.

In sparks, since our modules are wrote for a 3 hr 45 min session, we gauge it to base at 7cp (5-6 with optionally 1 or 2 bonus points for secondary objectives), THEN player voting for best 3 rpers on that table (winner gets 3 bonus, 2nd place 2cp, third 1). So at most 10cp.
A MULTI round module (Say the BLAH problem part a, B and C) gets 7cp max for round 1, 8 for round 2 and 9 for round 3.
When we do seminars/missions/interactives (basically a mix of LARP and TT), we gauge it at 1cp/hr.
Heck one of the home games i played under, the gm had an ave of 1cp/2 hrs + 1/great rp, 1 for good fun moment/comment.. So a 6 hr session netted 3 base, + up to 2 max. |

Do you hand out cp after number of fights? What happens if you have group that avoids fighting? _________________ Random is who random does... |

I haven't actually ran with garhkal as the GM but I get the impression his groups can't avoid fighting and probably don't really want to. |

Can you fight verbally? In that case we fight within our group all the time.. tick tick tick tick... it's a cp machine. _________________ Random is who random does... |

I tend to award CPs based on what was accomplished with the story in the session. If we haven't progressed, they'll only get a couple. If we've jumped ahead, I've been known to award up to about... 7 (usually less)? Fighting need not apply _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

I go for every so often, usually when their going to move to another planet. As for the number I award, it varies. I think 10 CP is the average for me, then I have a base CP award where everyone gets the base amount plus a set amount extra depending on things they've done in game. So if the base is 5CP then someone could end up with 7CP and someone else with 9CP. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!

I can see where that would be helpful, especially for those PCs that just burned through all their starting CPs. |
