I had fun running a game where the players were all slaves in a slaver ring (getting ready for auction), when imps attack in an effort to do away with both the slavers and some 'undesirable' slaves...

GM: Well the good news is you have been freed from slavery.
Players: Alright!
GM: Even more good news - the Imperials who freed you killed all the slavers.
Players: Yeah!
GM: The bad news is, now the Imperials want to kill all of you.
Players: What!?

Initially i did have them looking in horror, but then their gaming minds opened, and they saw it for what it was.. a chance to shine and show the other 'freed' slaves what it means to fight for what you believe in...

Na.. One actually shouted "JAFFA! WE DIE FREE" before charging... Strangely even with 2 dying (mortal wounded, and dead before anyone got to them to heal them), they loved the intro.. their replacement pcs were other slaves that got freed...
