Same reason: the Raddus still had her guns and would have killed more than a few fighters since it was still too far away for the FO fleet to properly cover the FO fighters. It would have been far easier for the FO fleet (as well as safer for the FO pilots) to just let the Raddus run out of fuel and then pound her with the FO's fleet's firepower as soon as the FO fleet could get close once the Raddus was helpless. Unlike the Empire, the FO doesn't seem to be in a hurry to throw its soldiers' lives away for no good reason. That, the FO's tendency to be more competent than the Empire in general, and their cult-like fanaticism, is why they're even scarier than the Empire.
All of this is easily inferred just from Hux telling Ren that the FO fleet couldn't cover him from that distance. Again, not complicated. |
Hux was concerned about covering Kylo rather than regular fighters.
From what we saw in movies, fighters are rather expendable - for example, in RotJ during Endor battle only fighters engaged in first phase and nobody cared.
Raddus was alone and FO could literally swarm it with fighters in numbers too great to be held with all Raddus's guns (only 12 point defense guns). And with all the cruiser's shields set to aft, forward and other sections would be an easy target.
Did someone check how many fighters were available to FO based on number of capital ships (Resurgent-class Star Destroyer has 2 wings - 144 fighters)? _________________ Don’t Let the Rules Get in the Way of a Good Story. |

Also, I remember hearing somewhere that the Apollo astronauts, as part of their training, were exposed to vacuum for up to two minutes and had a 100% recovery rate. With everything else being equal and with other people nearby to rescue you if something goes wrong, you can survive exposure to vacuum and be none the worse for wear if the exposure is less than two minutes. More here. _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies

Just repurchased the X-Wing and Tie Fighter flight sim games. I forgot how much I missed them. |

Yeah... the things people complain about this film make no sense to me.
The sequels have serious flaws that taken on the whole rank them well below Willow, Jurassic Park, or When Harry Met Sally. But no one ever talks about those flaws, it's all "how can [thing] happen in SPACE?". And thinly veiled casting prejudice.
I for one am getting tired of rewatching the last Jedi cause the scene with Snoke and Rey is so gross and creepy, for a young person's action movie. Whereas I don't really re-watch The Force Awakens because it's too polished for one, and feels like it's just checking boxes besides. |

So last night we watched TFA again. The film still feels like more of a reboot than a sequel. TFA still works for me as a single film if I think of it as taking place in a universe where none of the other Star Wars films exist (at least as-is). TLJ could exist in the same universe as TFA, but there just isn't any point in making that distinction (see below). So I view TFA as in a quarantine where it can't contaminate anything else. I've added TFA to my list of movies I don't want to watch again for a long time. I'm still not sure if I will keep the blu-ray. TFA is my wife's very favorite SW film and the only DT film I can really still enjoy, so I guess I can keep the blu-ray copy and shove it behind some Star Wars books in my personal library.
Tonight I finally watched the Score-Only version of TLJ that came with the digital rights to the film. This was my 8th total viewing of "Episode VIII" counting theatrical viewings. I've listened to the TLJ soundtrack more than I've watched the film, but I haven't listened to the soundtrack in a long time.
Playing this version of TLJ, I was able to enjoy the music and did notice a few things Williams did with the music that I never noticed before, but I still found watching the film to be very boring. And despite the "pure" audio experience of score-only (without the "impurities" of the dialogue further highlighting the film's annoying plot points), watching the movie still some triggered negative reactions in me for many of the things I dislike about it - Unfortunately the pure music audio doesn't help enough. I tried to have fun with it and add my own dialogue, but it just wasn't fun. But for some reason, this viewing of TLJ more than any others, I did get sad at Luke's projection saying goodbye to Leia. It had Luke and Leia's theme playing, the only time heard in the films since it first appeared in RotJ (Williams had forgotten the theme existed when he scored the birth of the twins in RotS). It saddened me to think of that being the last time Mark Hamill worked with Carrie Fisher.
At this point I realize I have no desire to ever watch TLJ again. Never say never, but I'm pretty sure I'm done with it. TLJ is the only SW film I haven't read the novelization for, but just today I finished reading TRoS novelization and watched TLJ so the mere thought of reading TLJ novelization now makes me feel a bit nauseous. I'm just not going to subject myself to that torture. There is a thread where details and insights from the novelization are discussed. I never bought TLJ novelization but I'll probably pick up a cheap paperback copy to shove behind other books and never read, but have just in case I was to reference it for some reason.
I'm definitely getting rid of TLJ blu-ray copy. My son and wife like it but the movie's on Disney+ and I still own TLJ digital rights (streaming and downloading). _________________ *

I will never understand why people rank TLJ below the Abrams movies. It's the only sequel I'm likely to rewatch. Though it'd be in the spirit of watching those junk direct to VHS sequels Disney used to make of classic cartoon movies. Lest people think I actually think it's a good piece of art. It isn't. |

TFA had potential. Dare I say I liked it enough to jump on board? I was willing to go with the story and find out about these new characters and the GFFA 30 years after the Battle of Endor. Yes, TFA was a nearly shot-for-shot remake of SW, and I even forgave JJ that, thinking he just wanted it to 'feel' like Star Wars and distance itself from the prequels.
Unfortunately, Disney and Lucasfilm had no interest in telling a coherent story, plot, or character developement. _________________ "The internet is a pathway to many abilities, some considered to be unnatural." - Sheev Zuckerberg |

You know, love it or hate it, no matter what you think of The Last Jedi, it gave us Luke Skywalker saying
