A Sector Ranger character has excellent potential for long-term character development. Ostensibly on the side of law and order, a Ranger has to be at least somewhat cognizant of the corruption of the Imperial system, even though it is the "legitimate" government. A Ranger with a true sense of justice could easily end up working the grey area between Rebel and Empire in pursuit of his own beliefs in law and justice.
In fact, a Ranger operating under cover could fit in quite well with the right group of PCs... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

Heck, the ranger's sense of law and justice might be a reason they Leave imperial service to work FOR the rebellion. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Yeah, that would be the only Sector Ranger character arc remotely interesting to me since I don't run Imperial games. I like the idea of a Sector Ranger who goes rogue because of discovering that law does not always mean justice. _________________ *

The fun part that the GM could work with is the sector ranger char wants to switch sides but also wants to keep his authority.
Also the char could deputize some rebels while taking some nasty down.
Lol arresting some imperial bureaucrat for interfering in an investigation because the guy tried to arrest his deputy. |
