Yeah, mine neither. Who wants to be average? These are heroes! Smile

Well, it probably has to do with the difficulty in matching 4D-blaster marksman or rolling even Moderate with 3 dice, too... Wink

Still, I'm gonna give this a try. I have at least one player who's onboard for the moderation... and the one that is less likely to be... well, his legacy-superman character already has plans to be killed off to introduce a new droid character, so... I'm not too worried about him being a powerhouse. Maybe I can avoid the bulletproof wookie curse this time!

Tell them heroes are what you become by action and deeds, not by starting stats. And that they are already more heroic than average people (6d more in attributes) is a great starting point.

I just told one another player who complained that then it would take him too long to get good at things, and said "Don't nerf skill improving!"

So... mixed bag. Wink

Well, the alternative is to build a bad guy party to oppose the PCs and keep it within range of their power level. Of course you could just throw loads and loads of mooks at them to wear their dice down with MAP. That or go with skills they aren't good at to challenge them...else that boredom that I talked about will crop up somewhere.

Oh, I plan to press on with the limited improvements... I just know now that not everyone'll be happy about it. Wink

Remind him that's what the rules say. If he wants faster improvement, play more often.

His response, and I quote: "The rules are dumb." I have to deal with this often. Wink

Might he be your bulletproof wookie? Or is he some other sort of power gamer?

I wonder.. Is he the sort of person who feels a 'starting worker' at a new business should be paid the same as a CEO or the founder, or does he know that 'by the rules of advancement' all newbies start off in the ground floor and have to work themselves up to that level? If he feel those rules are ok, why not the training rules?

Ral, not one of the bulletproof wookies, but one of two that I had major trouble with what I thought of as D&D/video-game RPGing... to whom the game is solely about leveling up and acquiring things and 'winning.' I assume that fits the definition of 'power gaming'.

garhkal, part of the problem is that he's a legacy gamer from my last group, in which I did not enforce the time or 1-pip-at-a-time limits... so in his mind, it's probably a sudden restriction in the way he's accustomed to improving, which also complements his improvement-orietned play-style well.

Well, you could try to teach them to rp through non combat encounters, etc.

Believe, I'm trying. But it's tough. Guy bought Force Sensitivity with Character Points in the last game, then had a dream telling him to go to Trinta to begin his training... he sat on it and did nothing for about 3 adventures. Meanwhile, side quest treasure hunt for an Ithulian Ore Hauler full of Stygium crystals? Pretty sure I'll have a hard time tearing him OFF of that to go back for working for the Rebellion if the old group ever resumes. Wink Still, he's very into the idea of playing an organic-bigoted mercenary pit droid, so there's hope that roleplaying might win the day there... maybe...

Then simply tell him "That is how i ran it that last game as i misunderstood the rules. This game i am wanting to run it by the book."

And if he balks, then let him know he can look for another group to game with.
