Years ago this is how I ran Star Wars. Nothing wrong with it, in fact its fun! Even in a sandbox you, the GM, can have some structure on a small scale. What I do is set up the location and the people in it. The NPC's have their own motives and will react accordingly. Assuming you know what the pcs are doing there, as GM you can set things up in parts or acts. I generally award 2-3 cps per act. I also might give out the cps early if I know the next session will be challenging.

Forgive the thread necromancy, but I've given this a bit of thought and I'd like to comment.

This kind of happened to me once. Kind of. My plan was to capture the PCs with overwhelming forces and had a plot worked out where they did a Moff's bidding for awhile. They used all their cps to escape the trap. I didn't give them anymore CPs than normal. I may have given them less for interrupting my finely crafted plan, but probably not. This was many, many years ago and it is not your situation Doug.

In your situation I would probably give everyone whatever they earned at the end of this adventure, and ten CPs at the start of the next adventure, so they couldn't use the ten cps to up skills. I'd apologize for balancing the encounter poorly and tell them they did a wonderful job against the odds.

What did you end up doing?

Sorry, was a bit out of commission for a bit with a family emergency. I ended up just giving them their normal amount of Character Points, as I figure it will all balance out eventually.

The experienced characters in my game are over 200 CP (total) since we started the campaign, so even though they spent a lot on this one, it's not like they're hurting for them.

Thanks for the feedback, Kytross![/img]

No problem doug. As a q, what is the ratio of that 200cp, they have spent on stat improvements compared to spending on bonus dice in game?

You know, I'm not really sure, as I don't have copies of the current character sheets (most of my copies are from close to character creation). My guess is that most people have 20-50 CP saved for use, but that's really a guess.
