On one of the screens in the background in the club that Obi-Wan and Anakin go into in AotC, there is a sport being played that looks like droids playing something similar to American football.

Nuna-ball, at the link I posted above.

Sounds like the SW version of Snotball featured in WFRP..

I'm not familiar with Snotball or WFRP (except for the oddly proportioned miniatures) but Trollball dates back to the late 1970s/early 1980s. It's obviously derived from a weird mix of rugby and the Native American version of lacross. I recall being at Runequest Con in 1994 in Baltimore where some folks played a game of Trollball. Can't recall who played the trollkin. Wink

I'm guessing Snotball is inspired by Trollball (though it could, I suppose be independtly derived).

Id say that WFRP came in the mid 80s

Looks like you'd say right.

I'm not familiar with Blood Bowl. As Critias said, it's a big galaxy and there. Somewhere there could be an analogy for almost any sport.

Interesting... how did you resolve it?
I actually just had my players betting on a blob race (they're kinda stranded on Umgul atm) to try and get cash to repair their ship. What I ended up doing (on the fly as I had no idea they'd use this) is assigning each blob a skill level and odds, and had as many blobs as players in the race. I had each person roll for a blob in the race. I broke down the course into 15 legs and rolled each blob per leg, keeping a running total of the results. The blob with the highest total at the end won.
I came up with a description of what each of the 15 legs entailed in terms of the obstacles, and everyone tried to get through Razz I should have had a base difficulty towards getting through the obstacle, but I didn't want to spend the time in game figuring out what failure to meed the difficulty would entail (I was making up the rules in the middle of the session, so they had to be quick and dirty).

I think the most fun was had based on the names I quickly made up for the blobs, using the ridiculousness of race horse names and no time to think as my base Razz

Remind me, which of the trilogies did the blob races come in? Wasn't it the Jedi academy. Are rules for blob racing in that source book??

I have stats, not rules. Wink

But you can find some info on the blob races in The Jedi Academy Sourcebook, pages 112-116. There are no real rules, just descriptions.

Yes, it was.

No, there are not racing rules, but there are stats and a brief capsule on the blobs themselves. There is also a capsule on their planet including the city and arena the races occured in and a description of the race course. You could just make up your own racing rules or use Ank's rules.

The JA Sourcebook does mention that all attempts to take the blobs to other planets have failed due to the blobs' nutritional requirements being met only by their home planet's fog. So if you wanted to adhere to EU canon, you'd have to send the players to Umgul. Alternatives would be to make something similar on another planet or to simply ignore EU canon.

Woulda been handy to be playing at my house, with my books handy then Razz Ah well.

EDIT - checking the entry, and dearth of information, what I ended up doing for the race was really pretty in line with the official material. Nice little coincidence there! In terms of stats, I had my blobs "running" with between 2D+1 and 4D+2
