It's allowed and is a common way of avoiding damage along with spending force points, but not together.

I have just decided to leave it as the original system but I may fudge it if they get DED!!! and still roll 1 on a CP Die and say look you are mortally wounded.

But this brings up something else. I did not use the wild die when I damaged the PCs last session. But did allow them to do so when they whack a baddy. This seemed to keep it a little more in line. Less likey to go off and really get splatted by a Hold out blaster attack...... of course if they get too uber or tick me off all bets are off.

AWAD- Of course getting hit with a heavy repeating blaster is still going to leave a mark.
