Ah, then I speculate that part of the appeal of Sparks is that your GM style fits in OK with the overall campaign tone or is there a wide variation in how Sparks GMs do their GMing?

A wide variation. In fact i am one of only a handful that are more gritty...
Others are kinda soppy/"cinematic". In fact one lables himself "the players best friend and their characters biggest fan in regards to how he is towards them.
He has NEVER had a death (and willfully continually fudges so it never happens), and rarely even has a mortal wounded pc in his games.

Over the years, I've played with GMs across the spectrum, but generally have not ported PCs from one GM to another. As a player, I would find that level of GM variability frustrating, at the very least.

Agreed. But i have at least gotten used to the others styles..

Heck one year when i was doing a private walk around, quizzing the members how they felt about me (Cause i had several instances of council members saying people had complained) some of those i talked to, said while my style (gritty) is not "their cup of tea"< it is at least the easiest to play for, as they know flat out what they are getting.
