Hi guys,
I'm new to Roleplaying. I know i missed out on it in my youth! I have joined a group who play lots of Call of Cthulhu and other games. They are keen to let me learn to GM as well as play.
I found some d6 starwars rule books etc at a car boot sale. I am keen to run this as my first GM attempt.
Am i being crazy? Running a "Dead" game, I loved star wars as a kid. But my knowlege is far from canon-istic.
Could we still have fun playing this? Its a blatent attempt by me to tug at the nostalgia strings!
Any advice / tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
Regards

Nostalgia is pretty much the best reason to attempt. Where you're not particularly canon-minded, you're probably in a better spot to run Star Wars than many... too much canon focus can kill a game. (Example - The Concept of a Star Wars RPG Should Die in a Fire)
This is a great system for getting your feet wet, both for GMing and playing; the d6 system is delightfully simple and flexible. As you can see from this site, the fact that there have been no books published for WEG Star Wars in over a decade, the game community is still very much alive and active in filling those gaps of missing modern material. In preparing your game, if you have any questions, you'll get answers.
Nice score on the books, which ones did you get, and for what kind of price? _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

I got the 1st edition rules, A gamesmasters guide and a source book. All of the covers are totally covered with crayon and finger paints! luckily theres no pages missing or anything so for £1.50 its worth a play! But deffinatly not collectors items
thanks for the welcome! I will be sure to raise any difficult rules questions here.
I've been following gnomestew for a while, its a great blog. Insperation for my own. although i hadn't read this article. |

I haven't played 1st Ed. myself, but there are a few on the forum who still play it. 1.50 is a great price, nice find
If you like the basic setup of the game, you might try getting 2e or 2e Revised & Expanded. Personally, I prefer the 2e rules, and borrow a couple of the modifications from R&E. 2e is my benchmark for evaluating all other game systems I've played _________________ Hotaru no Hishou; a messageboard about games, friends and nothing at all.

It's different. It's a little more complex and detailed than 1e. Which one is better is largely dependent on one's playstyle. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

The group focus is much more on Roleplaying than combat. |

Who says it's a dead game? We're converting new material all the time, and the people working on Open D6 are refining the rules all the time. _________________ __________________________________

I didn't mean to offend, thats why i put dead in quotation marks. I've seen the amount of stuff on here! theres more material than you can shake a stick at.
i simply mean out of print, no longer supported by publisher and publisher is MIA presumed dead. |

You didn't offend. I'm hard to offend. If I'm using similes, I'm not offended. I knew what you mean, but just had to make a wisecrack. I stick to what I'm good at. _________________ __________________________________

If you look Here you'll find all the converted and compiled stats for everything Star Wars. _________________ "I take orders from just one person: Me!"

You don't really have to "get through it." I don't think I've ever sat through and just read all of the fan books. However, if I need stats for something, I know where I can go looking. Use it as a reference library, not your required reading. _________________ __________________________________
