|
|
I was reading through "Platt's Starport Guide" when I got stumped about a character. On page 67 it talk about Brack, a voshis mold dealer in Gelgelar. And then on the capsule it says that Brack is an "oily little womp rat who always peers up his long snout at the farmers...". What? A womp rat dealer? Womp rats have most certainly always been described as mindless cratures, they could never be cunning merchants. I think the writer probably got confused, and meant to write ranat or some similar species. |

It's like describing someone as a "Rat".
I've known people who are ratlike. In both physical nature and in personality.
Sometimes, you can read too much into things. |

You're saying the character is actually human? The writer meant womp rat metaphorically?.... I don't know, he does talk about his "long snout", that's pretty descriptive to me... |

I'd have to agree that's it's either a metaphor (which is how I read it at first), or the author was confused... though I would hope that some QA check would have caught that. |

I've know people, in real life, that had a "Long Snout". Old High School Friend of mine, in fact.
I do admit, however, that the author might have been *VERY* confused.
He might not be human, however. Never did say he was. I'll read the book myself and read the whole thing, that might shed some light on the statement. |

Just checked it out. From the tone of the comment in the full writing, it sounds like Platt is using that as a descriptor of the person, not saying that he actually *IS* a Womp Rat.
In other words, he's a "Dirty Rat". |
