I still think an interesting concept lies in the idea that a Jedi's lightsaber color somehow reflects its builder's attitude toward the force. Maybe I'll use that. I'll call it the Jedi horoscope Smile

Green could symbolize a more emotion- and intuition-oriented Jedi, one who feels rather than thinks.

Blue might be the "here and now" type of person, whose mind rarely wanders. This could manifest itself in two ways...those who are somewhat reckless yet also cunning (Anakin), and those who are constantly mindful of the present (Obi-wan).

Red could symbolize boldness of character and a thirst for conflict.

So on and so forth. I dunno. Tell me what you think.

I'm not saying its canon or anything, just thought I'd bring it up. After the Jedi Masters in the game asked you a bunch of questions they told you what type of jedi you would be best suited for. Then they asked you what crystal color you wanted. Of coarse you could always change the crystal just about anytime you wanted and it made no difference.

I had always liked to believe that the color of the blade was inversely related to the color of the crystal... Thusly a Blue crystal would yield a Orange blade. a Green crystal would yield a Red blade. I don't recall my exact reasoning for this, but I do recall that it made good sense to me at the time, so I continue to use it as a rule in my games. So, if someone wanted a White blade... they would need to seek out a Black crystal... now, generally, I can't think of any Black Crystals, nor anywhere to find one... but Should a player want a white blade, they would need a black crystal... Now, I have (on occasion) allowed players to use 2 crystals of differeng color to get a specific blade color ( and also to use two of the same color to make some other combinations) Although it sounds like it would get complicated... generally players used what was available... and of course, as GM I could control to a degree what they could and could not find. So what I'm really saying is Color doesn't really matter for my blades so long as the player could find the right color crystal (or combination of crystals).

Well, I know in the Young Jedi Knights book Lightsabers Jacen uses an emerald green colored crystal and the color of his blade matches the color of the crystal he used. Been some time since I listened to the RoTJ radio drama, but I think in there it said Luke used a green crystal to make his lightsaber. And I believe Shadows of the Empire said the same thing.

I thought I read somewhere that the Sith created their crystals, imbuding them with the Dark side. Which I find funny, because when Luke makes his Saber from the notes he found at Old Ben's place, he creates his crystal (Shadows of the Empire).

Imbuding is just one way of preparing a lightsaber crystal. It is not exclusively Sith. Many of Luke's JA students used this practice as well.

I prefer to stay away from the whole lightsaber/horoscope idea. It is not cannon and I can't find a way to justify it. A lightsaber is just another piece of technology after all.

I think the OS says something about that, Orgaloth. Might also be in the New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology.

While George Lucas has only ever allowed, Green, Blue and Red, Purple Lightsabers to be shown, that doesn't mean that different crystals couldn't be used or couldn't be obtained for use in a Lightsaber.

I also agree that the Jedi Horoscope lightsaber color system doesn't mean squat. Maybe in the KOTOR games which take place 5,000 years ago, it could have been that way, but the practice is obviously no longer in use by the times of the movies.

Qui-Gons was green and Obi-Wans blue. I think thats only by choice. The appearance of a purple bladed lightsaber also kind of throws a wrench into that idea as well.

But wouldn't it be cool if they did mean something.

Red = Hate (All the Darth's, Emperor)

Green = Wisdom (Luke, Yoda)

Blue = Awareness (Obi-wan)

Purple = Perfection (Mace Windu)

Anyway, since it's your game, I don't think there is anything wrong with having Lightsabers Horoscopes. Hey, look at me. In my game, I whacked Luke, Han, Chewie, and Leia in the Death Star. Then I had Palpatine bring back the Sith (As in lots of em!).

How's that for canon.

Except the lightsaber Leia has from the Corellian Trilogy onwards has a crimson blade. In otherwords, it's red. The color is totally meaningless.

You think that "Lady Vader's" lightsaber being red is meaningless? I think it's telling, myself...=)

Lemme take a stab at this...

Lightsaber Color Red =

ummmm...

Hate?

No, thats not it.

Anger?

Naaaa, thats not doing it for me either.

Power?
Evil?
Aggression?
Darkness?
Sith?

Yep, I agree with ya.

Red is totally meaningless.

Very Happy

Hehe...just kidding.

As I stated before, the wonderful thing about RPG's is that you can tweak and change it however you like. In my campaign I brought back the Sith and my Hero's all are Padawans fighting with the Rebellion. Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewie are dead. It's goes so completely against canon it's not funny. But I like it so I do it.

I am now trying to work on color's meaning something in my game becasue I think a Lightsaber should be a fundamental part of a Jedi and it should reflect his outlook. To me, the red saber is an evil color. All the Sith and Dark Jedi use it (well most of them) and I personally feel it's not a nice color (reminds me too much of Blood).

But I have to bring back the fact that according to canon, Lucas stated that the colors mean nothing (I believe he said this in his documentary) besides Good Guys use Blue, Green, Purple, and Bad Guys use Red.

This brings an even more disturbing concept to mind. What about Mood Sabers? Razz
Think about it, they would definately help a jedi know when he is at risk of turning.
"GM: You rise from the hit, bringing you lightsaber to bear. As you grit your teeth and prepare to strike, your blade shifts to red.

That's an awsome idea, KageRyu. I could definitely see that on a sort of modified Quixotic Jedi.

I think that due to the highly personal/custom process of building a lightsaber, the end result is that the weapon reflects something about its maker. The lightsaber doesn't determine anything about the one using it, but the one who made it put the details in there down to their favorite color (and on that matter my opinion is any color can be used... plenty of colorful rocks on earth, in a whole galaxy there'd be pelnty more). Your favorite color can actually determine something about you. For example, people who drive red cars pay higher insurance, because it is believed that they drive more recklessly. Of course, the one who built the weapon and the one who uses the weapon may not be the same person.
