|
|
Im looking for a list of starship weapons, much like the list of personal weapons in the rulebook. I have GG 6 with its limited list, but it does not seem to be complete (perhaps it was in the 1st ed days). Also, weapon prices seem to be totally off...
Anyone know if there has been something more extensive published? Either in WEG D6 or converted from D20? |

My Weapons Stats book contains several ship weapons. Although GG6 is the main source for them. _________________ "He's Gry Sarth, of course he has the stats for them." |

Ah, didnt know that document had starship weapons as well. However, what is missing in GG6 still seems to be missing if the weapons comes from that publications. Also, I see that the GG6 wpns dont have ranges. Werent there a GG6 for 2nd ed? Some input into my missile/torpedo project was welcome though..
From memory D6 weapons: I seem to recall seeing official stats for a laser cannon between the puny Vonak light cannon and the heavy Tomral.
From memory D20 weapons: I recall something like 'escort lasers' and such, from a rather long weapon list. Anyone know what Im talking about? |

Oh, you'll find blasters and lasers of all sorts listed on the ships... that is, you'll see them in the stat blocks. But the problem is that you don't find them individually listed as ship parts. When I need them for my conversion work, I usually skim through official sources and look at comparable weaponry, but GG:6 is as official a list as you'll get.
You will, however, find a few listed in my Starships of the Galaxy equipment list conversion notes. That may help you. It hasn't been added to the official SotG conversion guide yet. Presumably Gry will add that once he's caught up with the work that he's been doing. We've both been really busy on the conversions and in RL lately. _________________ __________________________________

The problems with ships stats is that they dont really follow a standard pattern. Many seem to do, but suddenly you have a 'laser cannon' that do 4D damage with no explanation why its 2D over the 'standard' amount. Sure different models have different stats, but they vary so much. If you look at personal weapons there is a 'generic' standard with individual weapons with rather small variations. |

Ill take a few ships from 'ship stats' as an example.
1st: Cinnagar Interceptor:
4 Laser Cannons (fi re-linked)
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Starship gunnery
Fire Control: 2D
Space Range: 1-3/5/12
Atmosphere Range: 1-300/500/1.2 km
Damage: 4D
2nd: Drake Starfighter
2 Laser Cannons (fi re-linked)
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Starship gunnery
Fire Control: 1D+1
Space Range: 1-3/12/25
Atmosphere Range: 100-300/1.2/2.5 km
Damage: 4D
Here you have two ships. In one case 4 fire linked 'laser cannons', in the other 2 fire linked 'laser cannons'. They do the same amount of damage, have a small difference in FC and one ship has half the range!
3rd: C-73 Tracker
Double Laser Cannon
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Starship gunnery
Fire Control: 1D+1
Space Range: 1-3/12/25
A t m o s p h e r e
Range: 100-300/
1.2/2.5 km
Damage: 4D
Ok, double laser cannon seems to be the same as two fire linked? But why the difference in range?
4th: Sigil Courier
2 Laser Cannons (fire-linked)
Fire Arc: Front
Skill: Starship gunnery
Fire Control: 1D+1
Space Range: 1-3/12/25
Atmosphere Range: 100-300/1.2/2.5 km
Damage: 5D
Ok, now 2 fire linked laser cannons do 5D damage!
What I really want to point out is that theres no consistency between starships. |

id use gg6 as a guide, then invent from there. in star wars, you build stuff to suit your needs, or at least I do. try not to make anything super kick butt. there is a tendency when ppl "invent" stuff to make it better than what is there already. i try to invent something to fill a need, but balance it against what exists already.
as a stop gap you might make a medium blaster cannon. give it the same weight and cost and weight as the light laser cannon. but give it 3d damage. then compensate by it being a blaster cannon, fire control 1d, and range 1-5/10/18. so it has blaster range, blaster fire control, but more punch than the laser. we can call it a "Taim & Bak KD-5 medium blaster cannon"
ooh i should card that... _________________ D&D 5e DM and WEG Star Wars GM for two kids who will hopefully carry on with RPGs for years to come

I find one of the best sorce for starship gear and weapons to be Pirates and Privateers.
I love this book. Most equipment was transcribed to Gundark and Gry respective Catalogues, though. _________________ www.obidancer.com - RPG Character Portraits and Art.

For Starship weapons and accessories I use Starship of the Galaxy (SAGA) sourcebook. It has everything a spacer would need . _________________ Nico,

Yeah, Ive seen quite an extensive list in the d20 format. The 'only' problem is that I dont really get that system in relation to D6. Do you know if there is an existing conversion availible somewhere? |

Ah, thank you. Something to work from..
BTW, what defines a Turbolaser. It it just that it has a high damage rating or does it operate in some special way? Im specifically thinking of starfighter scaled turbolasers, but I guess its a general question. |

According to wookiepedia:
The turbolaser was a heavy laser cannon equipped with large banks of capacitors, allowing them to build up and store far more powerful energy bursts than standard cannons. These capacitors gave huge energy bursts to the beam, greatly increasing its power over standard laser cannons.
hope that answers your question |
