 Yeah, but a blaster bolt isn't traveling through a barrel, it's not a bullet.  It comes from an emitter at the end of the "barrel".  All you need is a hardcore cooling system, as vong mentioned.
 
 At any rate, these are irrelevant concerns due to Star Wars' position as space opera, not hard sci-fi, so these issues don't really matter.  The real reason that there is a rotary blaster cannon is because it looks badass.
