I played a "dark" campaign once and it was rather fun. None of us were allowed to be Jedi or Sith and we operated within the criminal underwold, but even the Mafia has a strict and well understood code of behavior.
There's a difference between playing an edgy, criminal character who sometimes must kill and pick up the occasional DSP here or playing a group that runs around killing and blowing up everything. That doesn't even sound fun. We still abided by the Dark Side chart, except I think the GM doubled it, so we essentially had 2-12 DSPs before turning to the Dark Side.
And if a player or group is that murderous, they're going to get caught by someone more powerful than they. There's always COMPNOR, Emperor's Hands, the Inquisitorium or conversely, the Rebel Special Operations. |

This seems like more the issue to me. If the GM has decided that they're not going to get DSPs, then that's fine, but letting them get away with it seems like a failure of the imagination. What's the point of playing an RPG if there aren't going to be repercussions for your actions? Getting to play in a world that plays back is kind of what the whole thing's about.
And I don't buy the "they leave no trace" thing. How could that possibly be the case? People don't "leave no trace" now, and our technology's not even a fraction of the Star Wars Galaxy's. It doesn't sound like these guys are exactly Dexter-ing their murder sprees, either.
And yeah, okay, the Empire is racist, but they're also totalitarian, and I don't think they're going to be too keen on anyone waging this kind of chaos (other than themselves, obvs) regardless of who the victims are.
Hey, look at that! My first post! Super-psyched to be here, super-psyched to be getting back to D6 again. |
