In the description for this power, it states that a new roll to 'break free' is allowed every time a new person is brought into the power's hold. So as long as it is upheld, it is effective.

Now what would happen if a badie used it on ONE pc that they had gotten alone?

Well... I looked over the power, and according to the rules set therein, once controlled, they stay controlled, until the controller lets them go, either willingly or not.

Figure that the controller can't stay awake forever, so, eventually, they have to give up control.

Beyond that, it seems like there's only the one chance for a single controlled character to "break free" - when first used on them.

Agreed, however, with good RP at a critical moment, I'd probably allow an attempt.

Sounds reasonable...

Just pointing out that if you go by what's written... any PC is fair game, and I know that most players that I've seen would have a fit if some other character (PC or NPC) were controlling their character.

My thoughts: wing it. Dramatic moments, controller hit/distracted, etc... give the contolled character a chance... unless you just want to be truly evil... Wink Twisted Evil

In one of the modules for gencon that is almost finished being edited, the BBEG is a BIG twist (won't go into it here) but if the BBEG manages to get one of the pcs on their own, they will use CONT MIND to get said pc to take them to the imperials (landing nearby) and turn themselves over...

I've mentioned something like this in another board, but in this situation I would house rule it. I think that the PC should have more than one opportunity to break free. At each major decision that hands the greater advantage to the darksider, he should be able to roleplay fighting for mental control. At each phase he should be able to roll control. Though if it beats the darksider's original roll, the darksider could fight to regain control of the PC's mind. There may be a few seconds of lucidity and freedom before the next stage of the mental battle, but not much.

I think it would highten the tension, even if it is a blatant violation of the written rules.

I'm all about what makes a good story.

(To be fair, if the PCs ever try to use the Control Mind power, the baddies could also get a chance to re-roll at critical points.)

I do my best to make my players squirm. It lets me know they're having a good time. Smile

I had a Jedi who was once controlled by a long-dead Sith after my character touched an artifact containing the Sith's spirit. My character was able to build up to an attempt to break free, and was successful. It took a long time to build to and some (IMHO) great roleplaying, but I was very descriptive about what was going on (as a prisoner in my own mind) and the GM let me have the attempt.

Of course, the rest of the party is now suspicious of my character, since he pulled a Force Choke on another party member... Mad

Well, the jury's still out on that one...We're currently back to meet up with Bail Organa on Alderaan. The two former clone troopers in the group (one of whom I choked) have made darn sure I'm bound, and have left me so for the entire journey back. Sure, I can TELL them I'm myself again, but they're not taking any chances. Not that I can blame them...

...but it's been REAL hard resisting the urge to TK my bonds off...just for fun... Twisted Evil

You could just control and use escape too. But you escaping would just give the trooper a reason to shot you. Laughing

They're not watching me 24/7. I'm bound and laying on my bunk in my cabin aboard our ship. Twisted Evil
