ok i was wondering. are there rules (or at least guidlines) for creating uglies? things like what parts are compatible, what happens to maneuverability, shields and weapons? i found a few uglies in the pirates & privateers book but no guidlins for creation, just a statement that they were really popular. (this thred may have to be moved to house rules depending on responces.) |

I think the closest you will get is going to be combining rules from GG:6 Tramp Freighters with the Jury-rigging rules. I'd say to make your life easier as a GM to give "junk parts" a price reduction multiplier and then work on a cost from there. The only really important part is that those parts aren't meant to go together, so under no circumstances should an ugly become the "best of all ships it has parts from" (Not without costing a lot more than the most expensive of the scrapped ships.). Those things are often lucky to hold together unless built by a true master or ship designer.
(Their popularity comes from the absurdness of their cheap price compared to a "legit" starfighter. They are after all, Junkers welded together to make an at least semi-function ship from "trash".) _________________ Luke, I am your father.

That's improbable?

That's...highly unlikely.

Yeah, there are no official rules as far as I know. Really, it comes down to "common sense" in terms of statting them. You're not going to get probably close to the maneuverability, speed, toughness (hull & shields) or firepower/range/accuracy of any given ship that goes into the construction.
It's a nice idea to also increase the possibility of a system breaking down at the slightest inconvenience too |

Hmm, I think I've seen some ugly-creating rules. Not sure where it was (neither it was official or not).
Wait, I found it: Net.Guide to Uglies. |

I re-read this Net.Guide. It isn't great, but it's a good start. I think it could be extended (Revised & Expanded ). When I'll find some time (possibly next Monday) I'll try to create R&E version with my ideas or we can expand it here on forum. What you think? |

Each Ugly is individual, and will have difference performance for each ship.
The pilots will range wildly with skill.
And most likely not be sane.
They're easy prey, because they aren't reliable.
They're also the most difficult to face, because you always know what a sane professional will do. These guys are completely unpredictable! |

i guess any rule that i would do is multiple starship repair (or starship engineering)
the stats would be at most the best of the two ships, but usually worse then either one (if it was better, everyone would want uglys) _________________ The Vong have Arrived

I'd also work on a "What fell off" table, but that's just me. |

There's a story in that.
Just wish I could find that novel it's in.
It's somewhere in another province. |

Get out of Manitoba! Go anywhere but Saskatchewan!
But yeah, some sort of malfunction/missing parts table is a great idea. I think that would be half the fun of having an ugly, never knowing what's going to work and what's not |

Travel Mug of StimTea, filled. OK, Rust-3 is ready to rock and..." *Lights go out* "Oh, right... Fusion Reactior, offline." |

If you're intrested, and have a copy, there's a B-wing Ugly on page 140 of Cracken's Threat Dossier.
Uglies are basically just taking parts from different fighters (or fighters and other vehicles as in the case of the aforementioned B-wing Ugly) and putting them together to make a new fighter. The results may intended to turn out something that has all the pros of the different fighters used, but often has many cons from what's missing. Like taking a TIE ball cockpit and engines and marrying them to the S-foils of an X-wing. You'd get the speed of the TIE and firepower of the X-wing's lasers, plus something that would probably be more manuverable in the atmosphere than a regular TIE, but you'd be missing the proton torps, shields, and hyprdrive. _________________ FLUFFY for President!!!!
