|
|
Ok. One of my players brought this up, and I guess I never noticed it.
The Minor Jedi Template has a lightsaber as part of his equipment package. Yet the character himself, does not have the lightsaber skill.
Now considering that WEG wrote the game before we learned about Padawan's and other Jedi training... did this every get errata'ed or does anyone have a ruling for this.
I told him, that we could figure out a house rule if there wasn't any rulings on it. Something along the lines of he could have the skill, but would have it at with a starting skill code of 1D or even 2D less than his Dex attribute code. That's to show he learned it, but hasn't used it in a long time.
Thoughts? Opinions? Linkage?
Thanks as always. |

Templates are just suggestions, and that sounds like a typo to me. I would just let him take the lightsaber skill the same way he would take any other skill, as long as he has the points to spend on it. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |

Actually, i could easily see why he has no skill. Some 'jedi' get their lightsaber passed on to them, before they are ready, or find it.... ANd iirc the minor jedi has only control starting out, not sense... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Why would his attribute roll be reduced? Lightsabre is a normal skill and should be rolled at Dex like any other untrained skill. |

Because I was posting at work without the benefit of the book... le sigh.
in the R&E Minor Jedi are listed with Control of 1D and a Lightsaber.
I agree, it was probably a typo, and I've let my players know that if they play that template they can have access to the skill.
As far as reduction in Dice... nah... that was a shoot from the hip reply. It missed. ;D
What gets me is the Young Jedi has access to all 3 force areas. Sure a sacrifice for the Lightsaber... but that's a bit much.
thanks! |

Again, only a template; every template should be customized for a specific character, otherwise you'll just be playing an animated cardboard standee.
The allocation of Force Skills in the templates is largely about flavour more than "well, we'll give this template this item and that template these abilities... yeah, that should all be fair." |

True, but if he does wish the LS combat skill, he will need sense, and that initial dice startingout will cost 1d of attributes to get. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

To get the LS combat force power he needs sense, but not for the Lightsaber skill, IIRC. Here is a quote from the book where I think they are justifying this template.
"For a good example, think about
Luke Sky walker. He's not real good
at using his lightsaber when he's first
given it by Obi-Wan Kenobi. How
could he be? He's never even seen a
lightsaber until Ben hands one to
him. Luke's just starting out and that's
why he trains with the remote aboard
the Millennium Falcon."
Bascially just like the template. After the training on the falcon Luke had 1D of Lightsaber skill but still not Lightsaber combat. One could argue that point but for that last deflection but, "I'd call it luck." _________________ "You can't take the sky from me..." Wait wrong forum. |

And this... is what I continue to forget.
Template. Not requirement. Not class. Not set in stone.
Thanks for the ideas/suggestions and slaps to the back of my head. |

Yea, D6 templates aren't like D20 levels. In D20 you are very constrained on what you can and can not do. D6 is much more flexible in letting you customize your character. To me it doesn't feel as artificial as D20. _________________ "You can't take the sky from me..." Wait wrong forum. |

You must unlearn.
Yoda: ...a Jedi's strength flows from the game. But beware of the D20. Classes, leveling, min-maxing; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the D20 path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.
Luke: Vader... Is the D20 side stronger?
Yoda: No, no, no. Quicker, easier to find, more limiting.
Luke: But how am I to know the D6 side from the D20?
Yoda: You will know... when you are having fun, enjoying yourself. A Jedi uses the game for flexibility and freedom, never for XP grind. _________________ Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid. |
