Though they do state "free" so I assume there is no copyright for linking the site.

That's not how copyright works.
It's not legal to reproduce and distribute copyrighted material. Since it's not legal to distribute it, we don't allow the site to be a conduit for distribution. Even if no money changes hands, it's still distribution of protected materials.
I know it may not seem intuitive for out of print materials, but copyright law is a lot more complicated than how intuition might guide us.
I've edited the post and left them rather than deleting them, because it looks like we just need another reminder of the forum policy.
