True, a good chunk of the rank and file imps are conscripts. BUT imo Imp Intelligence, are volunteers.

Agreed. I believe the bulk of the officer corps hail from the various academies (Raithal, Carida, etc.). Much easier to control who's in nominal charge of the troops and ensure their indoctrination.

Volunteers or not, the Star Wars economy is still best not placed under a microscope. Find an amount of credits that will work well with the game you are running and go with that.

LMAO the US economy is the same way.

I mean if you are thinking 30k credits for an intelligence agent is kinda right, lets look at some facts to compare star wars to modern day.

At 5 dollars per credit that is 150,000 a year.

Note that our CIA agents make between 58K and 82K.

At 10 dollars per credit that is 300,000 a year - more than most anyone makes on american payroll except maybe investment bankers, corporate leaders, and real estate tycoons.

At 2 dollars a credit we are starting look realistic at 60,000 a year for an agent.

A poor mans meal costs 5 credits, while a common is 15, and a good meal is 50.

Hmm hows much is a meal at McDonald's or Wendy's? And a meal at Applebee's or Buffalo Wild Wings is normal between 10 and 20bucks.
While a nice meal at red lobster can rake up to 50 easy if your getting your favorites sides and appetizers, and maybe an extra lobster tail? That butter rakes up quick to.

Lodging - 50 to 200 credits a day.
Motel 6 right down the street is 45 bucks a night.
But to stay at the holiday express is a 99 a night.
The cost of a suite at the Venetian in Las Vegas is actually 300+ though.

So that site is pretty on the ball and in my opinion tells that usually a credit is actually a buck if we wanna make comparisons.

And if you go by that and let yer agent make 30k a year - that means he can't even buy a new starship a year. However even our CIA agents don't normally buy a new Bentley every year.

At 180k+ a Bentley is often what we think in modern days when we think agent. After all they are made in England - homeland of the much beloved 007.

Now at the average 60k a year they could pick up a new model Bentley every 4-5 years, taking into account living expenses and trying to save up for it.

Well Done Agent.

Not to mention that many times, just as in real life - the agent is in a position to be comped many meals and rooms, if not given a fairly large budget to complete a mission when posing as an individual. On top of that his speeder/ship will be fueled on imperial credits while on the job - not their own.

Just like how modern day soldiers receive a credit card to use when fueling up a vehicle on loan from the base.

Hell the budget for an operation can often be what makes or breaks it - and coming in under budget consistently can be grounds for an inquiry or a promotion.

I agree. The economy is hard to handle with any amount of realism so I just try to avoid it as much as I can. I run former Imperial characters, but not current ones.

Fully Rebel characters join the Alliance for the cause and mostly get "paid" in room and board, and perhaps a very tiny pay. They are provided a ship if they need one, but my Alliance does bestow the rank of captain on any ship owner who provides the services of his own ship to the Rebellion (the Alliance needs all the ships it can get). But even that mostly just gives the character some authority, not any sort of significant pay. If a significant amount of credits are needed for a mission, they are provided to the PCs with the expectation that anything left over will be given back. Maybe Rebel PCs are mostly paid in Alliance war bonds that are not redeemable for years after Palpatine is disposed and the Republic is restored (outside the scope of the campaign). Yeah, that's the ticket!

Independant PCs like smugglers may need more of a hand-waive. The price and value of of products and services can be thought of fluctuating due to instabilities in the local economy due to the war. Maybe some things happen offscreen in between adventures.

Everything doesn't have to be ultrarealistic. The point of the game is adventure, so the dealing with the economy as much as needed (as little as possible) is just a means to an end.

IMHO, this is a very campaign-dependent issue. Kinda like melee combat.... we see almost none of it if Jedi are not involved.

And of course there are concepts like military tactics which we see noone ever using, but we make room for it in our games.... there's even a skill for it.

Economic issues may be highly relevant to the camlaign or the adventure... consider the group that was playing Qui-Gon and the crew from Naboo. "Republic credits are no good out here!"

And there are several skills: Business, Value, Bargain, etc.

In an old campaign i had it where 'independent rebel operatives, got around 50-100 credits (40+ 1d6x10) per mission they went on, while rebel members got twice that, plus had it easier in requesting gear from the quartermaster's office. Of course any gear requested had to get turned in, OR paperwork filled out on why it was lost/used up/destroyed..
