The problem is, D&D player learn a bunch of tactics and other things that work in D&D, and then expect them to work elsewhere. Even when some of those tactics are just plain silly. When those things don't work in another RPG they assume something must be wrong with the RPG.

Yeah, that too. I know one player who won't game with me anymore and dislikes all non-D20 systems. He does a lot of dumb stuff and it gets him killed in other RPGs. For example, he once charged 6 opponents with a beginning character. He cut one down and got chopped by the other five.

One origins in the past, i had someone who cause he was used to his DM at home games always stepping in and either
A) stopping pcs from doing something that would injure/kill other pcs even if by heavy handed DM fiat or
B) fudging the result so that 'other pc' never died'
who got all in a tissy cause i let a situation play out where a berserk wookie pushed 2 storm troopers through a thin stone wall "WITH PRIMED grenades" on their belt, knowing that the prisoners on the other side of the wall were chained up, and their gear (inc more explosives) was just beyond. End result, 2 dead stormtroopers, 3 other imperials, 4 dead pcs and a turned to the dark side berserk wookie (who wounded up becoming a NPC cause of turning to the dark side).
He even complained to the convention staff that i was a 'piss poor dm' for letting it all happen and NOT doing as his home DM would have done to save him (he cared not if it happened to the others)...

I know the type. I've gamed with some DMs who used to lead the group around by the nose and get us to do what they wanted. Some would use "DI" to make sure they got the outcome they wanted.

One of the things that has surprised some of my players is that I don't just jump in and fix things for them, or have "high level" NPCs show up to solve major problems when the PCs fail. The PCs are supposed to be heroes.
