Can you use character points when you roll the Hull dice of a starship to resist damage?
If so, who can do it? Just the pilot or every character on board? |

Haven't looked it up in a while but my understanding was character points, like force points can only be used to increase character skills/attributes, eg. you can add them to blaster skill, but not blaster damage because it is an item and not a skill/attribute value.
ergo, no adding to ship stats for damage soak, weapon damage, things like that.
you can add them to the piloting roll, or the shields operation roll.
If you want to add a slight bonus to a hull roll to help the party survive a powerful weapon make it a circumstance bonus, eg. say part of the adventure is to make it past a 7D damage starfighter-scale turbolaser emplacement at a base and the PCs only have 3D+2 hull on their freighter and no shields. You can tell them the emplacement's targeting computer is an older model and has trouble tracking very fast moving, manouevring targets and if they can move at least 10 space units per combat round and make a moderate piloting difficulty, the usable damage for the emplacement is reduced by -3D due to scatter.
Just tossing spitballs here, but you get the idea. |

I can't recall which topic it was posted under, but I once posted a house rule which allowed characters to transfer character points to their ship between missions, when the character would normally be training. In-universe, this would take the form of hours spent tinkering with or performing general maintenance on the ship. Multiple characters could do this on the same ship, pooling their CP when transfered to the ship. The CP could then be used in-game for damage soak, or other critical rolls, as needed. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I am not sure what the rule is but I would always let PCs spend their CPs to soak the damage... if the ship fails everyone dies. And as a side benefit it helps encourage your PCs to spend their CPs _________________ The Vong have Arrived

According to the RAW, characters cannot spend CPs or even FPs to improve the soak roll of their ship. CPs and FPs only affect the character's die codes.
The characters CAN spend CP to resist the damage they take when their ship blows up, crashes into the ground, or when making survival rolls to get into an escape pod. |

Agreed. Though if you do choose to let it happen, then it should apply evenly to where both pcs and npcs get to spend cp on hull rolls... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
