So, the consensus seems to be that the rule should be simple, should maintain the feel of the rest of the rules, should have some benefit and some cost.
I feel like eliminating 1 map for using a second weapon is the right benefit. It fits with the rules and is simple.
As for the cost, it has been said that merely upping the difficulty isn't enough. But, since you'd have to be rolling at least 6D just to have a fair chance of beating the increased base difficulty of 21 - 25 (and even with 6D you'd still fail about 40% of the time on a 21) that may not actually be true. This also means that you strike yourself if you roll an 11 or less. Unless you'rd playing in the old republic era or yiu have munchkin PCs, they won't even have a fair chance of using this option for a long while. If you add in further complications, it could become impossible, and remember we're only talking about balancing the benefit of removing one MAP here, and only if two of those actions are taking place with the lightsaber (like parry + attack). It sounds balanced to me.
Once a PC has 8D - 9D or more in something, they're already good enough to beat the base difficulty pretty easily, and pull off two or more attacks in a round, so even if you're talking about blasters, coupled with Rate of Fire rules you can only shoot a blaster so many times in a round so it still sounds balanced. |

That rule comes from the original rule book and, being a martial artist, I agree with it. There is (and should be) no advantage to using a two handed weapon such as a double lightsaber. A staff is slower than a sword. Two weapons ARE more difficult to wield than one. In my campaign "lightsaber" is it's own skill, and so is "double lightsaber" and "two lightsabers at the same time".
If the player wants the "cool factor" go for it! But, he's gotta pay the price. _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.

Yup.. had one jedi PC who built a lightsaber stave (quarterstaff which had a LS on one end. The stave was collapsable, or extendable depending on the jedi's wish.
He paid for it, payed out to make it... but loved having it. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
