You can always go the opposite way. Instead of a pour stats for a ship you give them the choice of a great looking ship (maybe something they want) that has some annoying quirks.

The idea that Vader wanted prisoners seems plausible but I don't think that was the reason for just a ground assault.
Planetary shields disrupt sensors so it makes them difficult to near impossible ... |
